Sweet and Sour Green Beans

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2008
If you like warm German potato salad, you will probably like this, since it shares a similar flavor profile. I used frozen green beans, because I don't enjoy the texture of canned. I used chicken broth instead of the can juices. I also cooked the bacon bits ahead of time. Then, i cooked one slice of bacon with the onion (for the sake of flavor) and continued with the recipe as stated. I just don't like soggy bacon bits. I also trim most of the fat with kitchen shears, and then cut them into bits and then cook them. It's good with pot roasts.

Disappearing Marshmallow Brownies

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2008
Two 11x13 pans of these can make 4 dozen cookies. I made them for church and they were all gone quite quickly. People seemed very enthused about them. They are a good thing to make the night before and then serve. They seem to benefit from sitting overnight.

Curried Honey Mustard Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2008
Great curry taste, quick and easy, smells lovely and fragrant! I used my pyrex with the lid. Turned out just great. In my opinion, you could halve the sauce and still have enough, and reduce the butter too. I melted the butter in a saucepan and quickly sauteed a little minced garlic in it, then continued with the recipe as is. Thanks!

Hot Artichoke Dip

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2007
This is the best! Only 4 stars because I made it by following the directions of the reviewer named SKYGRETCH...and it was a hit. I am planning to make it again for a Christmas party tomorrow. I used crab claw meat, and I chopped up the jalapenos (seeds removed) in a cuisanart with the other stuff.

Sweet and Sour Meatloaf

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2007
I love making this meatloaf. It is so easy and makes great lunches for my husband who is a teacher. A tip for blending ground beef so that it doesn't end us solid as a rock: use a pastry blender to mix ingredients. It incorporates air into the mix. I use the pastry blender to make hamburgers as well. I prefer to use ground sirloin for this one, and always line my pan with aluminum foil to save on cleanup.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2007
I'll just put in my stars with the other almost 3000 people who loved this recipe for its total ease of preparation and yummy result. Great for the working man and woman who are gone all day! I did have to run the gravy through a strainer to make it a little smoother.

Lemon Cheesecake Squares

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2007
These are great! I made them for my bookclub this evening, and there was a cheesecake lover who liked them alot and wanted the recipe. This is not a diet-friendly dessert, but I guess that's why it is a dessert...I think I may try making these with key lime juice/zest with strawberry next time for a change. Just a lovely dessert and feeds a crowd, too. The crust is yummy too. Pairs perfectly with coffee and tea.

Sugar Coated Pecans

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2007
Everything I love about pecan pie without the syrupy stickiness! I used these in a fruit and cheese tray along with some curry cashews. Perfect for holiday snack bowl, and pretty in a tray, too. Watch the time on these carefully. And let your nose be your guide for getting them perfectly toasty and yummy; they will have just started smelling lovely when it is time to take them out!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2007
My husband is famous in our circles for making these awesome cookies, and he's been making them from this site for several years. Sometimes I have to make them if he is too busy. We have made them probably a hundred times. He took them to school for the teachers' lounge on a Friday. WOW! 72 cookies gone by lunchtime!

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2007
A keeper. My husband actually threw this all in the crockpot, and shredded the chicken at the end; he quite enjoyed it. I think he thought adding beer to food was quite fun, too, although we were both wondering if we should skip that step. But it turned out great--we liked this alot! Thanks!

Baked Ziti IV

People who ate this dish loved it! A favorite I will keep around, especially good if there is not time or inclination for lasagna, but you are craving something cheesy and melty and tomato-y. Not good for you health-wise! Very good for you comfort-wise!

Chicken Marsala

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2007
Judging from the reviews, I see that it must have been my fault, but this was just not good for us. My husband didn't even like it, and he eats everything! I thought the flavors were quite jolting and not well-balanced. Maybe I should try it again based on the many positive reviews.

Cheesy Ranch Potato Bake

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2007
I have mixed feelings about this one. As another person said, 6T of butter is waaaay too much. I put in 3T melted, and it was too greasy for my liking. I used red potatoes, skin on, as another person suggested. The dish wasn't exactly delicious. It was just okay. I don't really think it is tasty enough to warrant all the fat calories. I might try making it again sans butter.

Denise's Peanut Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2007
Excellent recipe! I followed the advice of others and added the following: 1T hoisin sauce, 3T chunky peanut butter, and extra crushed red pepper It was very yummy. I tossed some yellow squash in mine also, but that was just because I needed to use it. I served over jasmine rice. Very excellent! Thanks!

Colorful Mixed Salad

Great Salad! I took it to a dinner. It served about 8 adults. I would recommend adding the dressing just before serving. I added mine a little too soon. It could make the greens a little wilty.

Day Before Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2007
I like to roast 3-4 cloves of garlic in the oven. Drizzle with olive oil and roast at 350 for about 30 minutes. Then I mix them into the potatoes with other stuff. Very yummy. This recipe is a lifesaver for the make-it-aheaders and those with limited space. Both of which are very important to me. So, thanks!

Samish Island Salmon Barbecue Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2007
A very saucy sauce! We tried this with grilled salmon. I followed the recipe to a T. We thought the sauce was sassy and bright. It definitely fulfills that need for zip which salmon produces in the mouth. We liked it. I don't know if it will become our #1 for salmon, but it was definitely good and something different. Thanks!

Roasted New Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2007
These potatoes are great! The only reason I gave it four out of five stars is because I think you have to add some balsamic vinegar to this & some fresh rosemary. Otherwise, everything about it was good. These make a wonderful side for almost any main dish protein. Thanks!
