About this Cook
I am 23 years old, and let's say I have been baking forever, but I guess I never paid attention when my mother was cooking rather than baking! I love to expand my cooking potential and try new things while staying somewhat in my comfort zone. My fiance works late so I am also getting used to cooking dinner for myself at night, which has been a bit trying considering he is the cook in the family. AR has been helping me along though, slow but sure!
My favorite things to cook
Baking of all kinds, cakes, pies, muffins, candy, fudge, any sweets, fun appetizers, dips, pasta of all kinds, casseroles, Mexican dishes- enchiladas are my specialty!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every year at Christmas time my mom and great-grandmother would make a huge assorment of fudge and candy to last the season and for the family Christmas party. As a child I remember always being "sick" that day, so I could skip school and go to grandma's with mom. Now as an adult I always manage to get that day off work to continue our fudge tradition and wouldn't miss it for the world.
My cooking triumphs
My fiance is a wonderful cook, so needless to say- I stick to the appetizers and deserts, and he usually makes dinner. Since he was working late he gave me instructions to his family's beef stroganoff recipe. I couldn't believe it was possible, but I actually made it just as good! It IS possible! I am getting better at trying new recipes and food. Since starting on AR I have actually become quite the cheesecake connoisseur, my family now likes mine better than Cheesecake Factory or Elis.
My cooking tragedies
Grandma and I- several times not paying attention with chocolate on a gas stove...you do the math! I have also burnt frozen pizza before, oh and tomato soup...canned tomato soup. So bad I had to throw out the pan... hey I was just getting used to a gas range!

Ham and Broccoli Bake
Wow did this turn out better than expected! Much tastier than your average casserole type pasta dishes. I will atribute part of that to the sauce I used, Roasted Red Pepper Alfredo rather than plain alfredo. I think this really make this a hit and added much more flavor than traditional plain alfredo sauce. I also mixed in just a bit of the cheese that was supposed to stay on top. This was super delicious and hubby (who strays from casseroles AND alfredo sauce) gobbled it up fast and had seconds before I was done with my first bowl. I HIGHLY recommend trying different flavored sauces to give it more flavor, and will be trying this with other meats and veggies soon.

Dirt Cake I
Excellent! This is hubby's fave dessert and it turned out wonderful, made no changes except I used chocolate pudding instead of vanilla, thought the pudding mixture needed some chocolate. Will make again and again!

Cheesy Chicken Pot Pie
YUM! Best pot pie recipe ever! Will def. make again, as requested by hubby. Felt it needed more veg so I added broccoli and mushrooms instead of peas (along with some pepper and garlic) and it was fantastic. Used Pilsbury refrig. dough to make it easier, and def. needs to bake longer than 35-35 min, mine was in almost an hour, maybe next time will up the temp a bit.
