About this Cook
Hi, I'm joe, and this is my allrecipes profile. I am a 24 year old mechanic, and I love nothing more than to play guitar and cook in my spare time.
My favorite things to cook
Anything cajun, traditional southern cooking, but I had my first child in May, so I am trying to learn how to cook a little healthier. Have something to stay alive for!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My dad lived in Louisiana, and learned the art of Cajun cooking, and although i never got the chance to learn from him, I have adopted that style of cooking as a sort of tradition.
My cooking triumphs
My own crawdad shrimp gumbo, I took it to work for a pot-luck and was swarmed for the recipe the next day.
My cooking tragedies
There are no cooking tragedies, only learning experiences.

Southern Coleslaw
Far beyond the scope of grocery store coleslaw. I wanted this to go with a pork BBQ, and it fits the bill perfectly with my favorite barbeque sauce. Definitely different, though I agree with the review that tells to add celery seed. I added carrots and a little minced red onion to the mix as well.

Philippine-Made Sugar Cookie
Top Notch! A friend's wife sent sugar cookies to my work, and left me with a hankering for more. I did not have any chocolate, so after researching, I substituted a mixture of cocoa powder, sugar and shortening. I can honestly say that for a 24 year old guy, it's easy to make these cookies, and they're very enjoyable.

Ground Beef Stroganoff
Quick, easy, very good. I combined certain advice with my own touches to make this an excellent recipe. A little worchestershire in the broth before you mix, a small squirt of spicy brown mustard(had none dry), a little tobasco(can't get enough) and some dried parsley while the sauce is simmering with the hamburger. I will be excited to try this recipe as proper beef stroganoff. BTW, added quite a bit of parm blend (w/asiago and romano), as my daughter is quite fond of cheese. Not gourmet, but excellent for quick & easy
