I am married to an awesome man. I have 3 daughters 2 stepsons and 5 grand children. In January 2006 I retired from my job. Several months later I started a small catering business that I do out of my home. My Mom and Mamaw were your typical Southern cooks. As a kid I loved to watch and help them cook, bake, can and make all kinds of food, cakes, pies and candies. Coming from a small rural coal mining town in the Southeastern Applachian Mountains of Kentucky, and being lucky enough to grow up on a small farm, we were truly blessed. We always had a big Sunday dinner, and holidays at our house took a week to prepare. Nobody ever left our house hungry, no matter who showed up.
My favorite things to cook
Just good down home southern cooking. Lots of fried smothered and covered,
not to mention all kind of greens and beans. I am pretty good at all types of foods, and I simply love Cajun food. Cooking Chicken-n-Dumplin's that tastes just like my Mamaw's did!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Family and holiday meals with my family: my husband, all my children, grandchildren and friends. Traditions, keeping the old ones alive as well as making new ones, that's what it's all about!
My cooking triumphs
My catering business. Being able to cook, serve and take care of 150 people at one time, and making it look soooo easy. Like anybody could do it. Catering and doing most of the cooking for 110 people (with a little help from some friends) for one of my daughters wedding, as well as being mother of the bride, and walking her down the isle. Whew!!! No stress here! Cooking a great meal and everyone lovin' it!!!!!
My cooking tragedies
The very first time (age 13) I ever cooked for some body (my stepdads boss), other than family, I fried chicken and burnt it to a crisp. I ended up outside playing baseball with my brother and friends and forgot I was cooking until we saw smoke coming out of the window of the house. Disaster!!
