About this Cook
I'm 22 years old living in Hialeah Gardens in Florida. My family are from Cuba, but I was born here in Miami.
My favorite things to cook
I love making pumpkin pie. It usually comes out looking terrible but tasting great (like all masterpieces). But mostly, I like cooking for others and I'll make whatever they desire, as long as I get a very positive result. Oh, and I don't have my own kitchen to experiment with (yet), so hopefully I'll be updating this very soon with more favorites.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Unfortunately, with almost half of my family still in Cuba, our family is not as tightly-knit as I would've hoped. However, I do plan for my future family to take down any recipes my boyfriend's family has to teach me and any others I come across on the way.
My cooking triumphs
The Brown Sugar Meatloaf I made while my boyfriend's parents were on a cruise and we had the house to ourselves (and access to the kitchen!). His mouth dropped when he tasted it. He loved it so much, I had to stop him from taking more so that he could have leftovers for lunch. :)
My cooking tragedies
I've burned microwaveable mac & cheese before. Other than that, my only tragedy is my dependence on the microwave.

Roasted Vegetables
So delicious!! Even my fiance, the avid carnivore, dove in for seconds! I didn't change out any of the ingredients and I made sure the veggies were cut small like another poster said to avoid uncooked veggies while others got mushy. I also did the cook 1/2 the time with foil cover and 1/2 without to avoid mushy veggies. My fiance mixed this recipe with "Flat Iron Steak with Balsamic Reduction" and they played together beautifully (although the 1st time around, I burned the sauce and didn't include it). As a leftover, I mixed with a Vegan version of "Brown Sugar Meatloaf" and it was gorgeous! Great recipe!!

Flat Iron Steak with Balsamic Reduction
We used New York Strip Steak instead of Flat Iron, and the spicing was great! Unfortunately, I followed the heating instructions for the balsamic reduction and I turned it into tar!! Fortunately, the recipe calls for them to be cooked separate, if not my steak would've been ruined! Careful with how hot your pan is... it was smelling so good, but a little too vinegary for my fiance's taste, so possibly cutting back the vinegar next time. But either way, it's a good recipe!

Vegan Lasagna I
I have to agree with the most of the comments that it came out a little bland. There's also too much green i.e. the spinach that my meat-eating fiance can handle. Next time, I'll bring it down to one package of spinach. There was actually extra sauce (my pan was a tiny bit smaller than recommended) and I used it on some pasta for a guest and he loved it. So the "blandness" is coming somewhere from either the tofu mix, noodles, or spinach. I'm gonna have to play around it to balance it out. Otherwise, I loved it!
