I was never interested in cooking and now I regret it because my mother (deceased) and Grandma (also deceased) were both excellent cooks. My Cuban mother made anything she cooked delicious so that neighbors were constantly commenting on the incredible smells emanating from our house! My Sicilian grandma was the same, whipping up everything from Sicilian square pizza to amazing tender roastbeef to homemade ricotta cookies. If I had paid attention there is a good chance I would not need this site so much! I have to say though that this site has really helped me. I went from beginner w/virtually no knowledge to pretty darn good awfully fast.
My favorite things to cook
I love to make chicken breasts w/sauces and I also enjoy making different pasta dishes. I have made many from this site. I am attempting some more complex stuff (for me anyway) lately like stuffed mushrooms. I used to make cakes when I was a kid (I have a big sweet tooth) and I am getting into that again.
My favorite family cooking traditions
As I already said, I come from a line of excellent cooks so maybe I'll get lucky and find it's in my blood (lol). My mother used to make savory lambchops for my dad which he loved and Cuban beef picadillo which would melt in your mouth. I aspire to be half as good as she was and my grandmother was.
My cooking triumphs
I have had quite a few successes by following recipes on this site. I tend to stick with the ones that have over 4 stars and I always read the reviews from the other cooks. My faves have been the soy garlic marinade (my hubby loved it) and the guy-approved meatloaf as well as the chicken w/caper cream sauce. I plan on starting to take pictures of my finished dishes so you guys can see my progress.
My cooking tragedies
In the beginning, I had a tendence to overcook my chicken breast so that it was tough. Now I know better and watch carefully so that doesn't happen anymore.
