About this Cook
I love cookbooks and trying new recipes! I like things that are quick and fast but lately I've started to appreciate slower cooked meals.
My favorite things to cook
cupcakes, homemade frostings, all other desserts, soups, one pot meals and casseroles, anything challenging or new to me
My favorite family cooking traditions
anything my grandma made such as cinnamon rolls, spaghetti sauce, homemade noodles, chicken and rice, potato soup, ham at Christmas and Easter, pork and sauerkraut on New Year's Day, my mom's fudge and pretzel salad
My cooking triumphs
my first layer cake that I made for my Mom for Mother's Day 2007! also, the rainbow cookies (concocted by combining 2 different recipes) I made for a wedding turned out picture perfect.
My cooking tragedies
the worst was a very unappetizing green chicken curry. bad, very bad. so bad in fact that I couldn't bear to finish my plate let alone keep the leftovers. I used the garbage disposal to get rid of the evidence and had something else for dinner. my first attempt at making chicken stock wasn't so good either. it came out way too watery and lacked flavor. however, I'm not deterred easily and I still used it in an Italian wedding soup (which I'd also never made before). no amount of chicken boullion could save that. I'm better at making stock now but I always think of that episode when I do...

Authentic Middle Eastern Hummus (Chummus)
my first time making homemade hummus, this is so easy and very good. I think the cumin gives this recipe something special that I don't usually find in hummus. so delicious, I will make this again, although it will be awhile as this makes a TON! thanks for sharing!

Herbed Pork Roast
5 stars, nothing less. I omitted the celery seed as I don't like the taste of celery but everything else was great, I think cooking the pork at a low temperature for a longer time leads to the juicy tenderness that is this recipe. definitely a keeper, thanks so much for sharing!

Apple Crumb Pie
very good! I used a homemade buttermilk crust recipe in a 9.5 inch pie plate. turned out very well would certainly make again. omitted raisins and walnuts per request. I selected this recipe over others because it does not call for crazy amounts of butter, like others I found and requires no precooking of the apples. might have to add this to my Christmas baking list! thanks for sharing!
