Sweet and Spicy Pumpkin Seeds

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2009
I wish there were more stars that I could give these seeds! I have been eating pumpkin seeds every year all my life. I decided to see if there was something different I could do for a special treat for the boys and decided on this one. Am I glad I did. I went by the recipe exactly. They reminded me somewhat of kettle corn, with a little spice (but not too much for the kids). All the kids and hubby really loved them. Next year we'll have to save more seeds. Thank you Lotus!

Butter Cream Frosting I

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2009
still not what i was looking for. it was a little sweet, and turned out heavy, even after adding additional milk. I beat it in the KA for a good 10 min and still didn't fluff up.

Best Ever Butter Cream Frosting

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2009
I followed the recipe to a "T" and it turned out pretty good. It was a little greasy though. I saw other reviewers who said it seemed curdled, mine did too until about 10 minutes into beating it with the kitchen aid. I beat it for the whole 20 min and it came out pretty fluffy, still greasy though. EDIT: Okay, i wrote the review for this recipe after i just tasted the frosting in the bowl. I went ahead and used it (thank goodness) and filled my cake, then it sat in the fridge overnight before I put the fondant on. This frosting came out so perfect for filling cakes! Once in the cake, it completely lost any greasiness it had in the bowl. I can see myself using this frosting for most of my future cakes. I also think this will be a good base recipe that will lend itself well to other flavorings, besides just vanilla.

Chewy Chocolate Cookies I

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2009
These cookies had the flavor I was looking for, but despite following the recipe exactly, they did not turn out. I was looking for a flat, chewy cookie, but not that flat. They turned into one big cookie in the oven. I did put the rest of the batch in a small cake pan and baked for about 40 min and it turned into a great brownie type treat! I am giving this recipe 3 stars just because they had a good flavor.

this is my go to recipe whenever we camp. It goes with everything. like other reviewers, I don't use quite as much butter, 1 stick instead of 2 usually.

Best Ever Chocolate Chip Cookies III

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2009
I wish I had found this recipe years ago. I have been trying to tweak the tollhouse recipe to get a puffier cookie with no results. This is what I was trying to do. What I love about it is that this recipe has half the sugar of the classic tollhouse recipe, so I don't feel quite as bad giving them to the boys.

Double Crust Stuffed Pizza

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2009
I am the one that submitted this recipe, but allrecipes left out an important detail. With the cooking time and temperature being what it is, the crust will tend to overbrown. I cover the edges with aluminum foil about halfway through to avoid this. Enjoy!

South African Yellow Rice

This would be better if you cut down on the sugar, it was much sweeter than I thought it would be. It has a good flavor though and is a good base for grilled chicken.

Grocery Store Frosting

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2009
I wish I could give this recipe more than only 5 stars! This is exactly the recipe I have been looking for. My husband likes heavy super sweet frosting, but I like a fluffy, not so sweet frosting. This frosting fits sooo perfectly in the middle, we all loved it. It's also great that there is no perishables in it, so it doesn't have to be refrigerated. This recipe also reduces by half very nicely.Thank you so much for a perfect recipe.

Mayonnaise Cake I

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2009
I followed this recipe exactly. I usually don't have any problems with baking, but this turned out heavy and left a greasy aftertaste. I just dusted it with powdered sugar like I usually do with chocolate cake when I am in a hurry and the kids want some, but I really don't think any kind of frosting would have saved the taste. It did however, turn out moist. I won't be making this again.

Polish Style Lasagna

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2008
WOW!!!! this dish tasted like a pierogi in a casserole. I was worried about some of the reviews being bland, but all turned out well. I did use real mashed potatoes and added milk to make them spreadable. I also added an egg to bind the potatoes, I was worried about not setting up well from the extra milk. that worked out well, too. I also followed other reviews about top layer being crunchy, so I followed suggestions to add top layer of potato. I wish I would have added 2nd onion. I can't wait to make this again when I can get to the polish meat market and pick up some sausage. I will probably be trying a lot of different variations, as they seem to be infinite!

Taylor's Piroshki

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2008
These tasted really good. they were very similar to what I have been looking for since a Polish guy I worked with brought in these little stuffed rolls his mother made. The recipe makes a good amount, and that is a good thing because every one loved them. I served them with a dilled sour cream sauce for dipping, but they were just as good without it. Needed a little more flavor though. They ones I had before had a little tomato flavor, maybe I'll add a little tomato paste next time.

Grandma's Butter Noodles

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2008
these noodles were great! Just like other reviewers said, they were very easy to roll because the dough didn't snap back when rolled out. I rolled them out very thin and put them in chicken noodle soup. Very, very tasty. Thank you for the PERFECT noodle recipe!

I really didn't enjoy these puffs. The savory taste in a cream puff really shocked my taste buds. I thought it was just me, but no one else ate them either.

Sweet Potato Bread I

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2008
Great!! Soft and sweet. I usually eat these kinds of bread with butter on it, but I didn't need any with this recipe. My husband and son ate so much I only got a couple of slices. I did use applesauce instead of oil, though, because I had leftover applesauce and sweet potatoes from thanksgiving.

Cinnamon Rolls II

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2008
I liked the texture of this cinnamon roll. they came out very fluffy and soft. I will make these again, but I will use more brown sugar, as they didn't seem to have a very sweet flavor, except for the icing(which was excellent by the way). They were very easy to make the night before, too.

Original Homemade Italian Beef

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2008
This was great! The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is because I made some changes to the recipe. I only added 2 packages of italian dressing mix, then added 1 package of onion soup mix. I also added the peppers at the beginning. It turned out absolutely perfect.

Drop Sugar Cookies II

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2008
This recipe is soooo close to what I have been looking for. Growing up near the michigan indiana border I grew up with amish sugar cookies and can not find a recipe for them now. Could be the same but maybe when I cut the recipe way down I need to do some tweaking to it now. SO soft and sweet (I do remember the recipe calling for brown sugar, so I cut sugar in 1/2 and subbed in brown sugar) They leveled off nicely for a drop cookie. I was worried with the first tray because my 3 year old dropped the cookies, but they still turned out round and smooth. Great recipe!!!
