Poultry Seasoning

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2008
I made a lot of changes to this recipe, such as adding other herbs and cutting back on the sage. As is, the spice is too plain. Thanks for posting, as this recipe inspired me to create a home made poultry spice.

Marinara Dipping Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2008
The key to making this sauce is the simmering time. As stated, 45 minutes need to pass before serving the sauce. Cooking uncovered is a must! If you have tomatoes from your garden this sauce will highlight the sweetness of them. Wonderful sauce! The only recommendation I have is to make extra! ;) I've added zucchini and it rocked. Thanks for the recipe.

Hummus III

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2008
Great recipe. I tweaked things just a tad to suit my tastes. And mean 'tweaked'...added a splash more lemon juice and some pepper. It is paramount that you use tahini. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to make Hummus without it, and tonight made it with the Tahini. It makes the recipe.

Patti's Mussels a la Mariniere

FANTASTIC! I loved this recipe, and the mussels were wonderful. Then only changes I made was no tomatoes and substituted chicken broth for white wine. Yummy!!

Crab and Pea Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2007
This was ok, but no more than that. I gave it 4 stars instead of what I feel it deserves (3 stars) because I substituted canned crab meat for the imitation. It must really need the imitation, because this recipe was almost gross. :( I had to add some pepper and lemon to make it edible.

Exquisite Pizza Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2007
I didn't find this 'exquisite' at all, in fact it tasted like a somewhat bland pasta sauce. I even made this recipe twice because I thought I did something wrong the first time. I think I'll keep looking for a pizza sauce recipe, sorry. :(

Quick and Easy Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2007
This seemed to be doing well until I baked it on my pizza stone. The crust was a bit too hard on the bottom - think crispy crust. I probably won't make this again. :-/

Bar-B-Que Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2007
Great recipe. I substituted a different vinegar (used balsamic) as well as using prepared mustard instead of the powder and it turned out well. Even though I wasn't amazed by the outcome, my family RAVED about the sauce. The picky eater had TWO helpings of the pulled pork (on sandwiches) that I put this sauce on. Like other reviewers have said, be careful with that hot sauce, as a dash or less is all you really need. Unless you like it fiery!

Canadian Barn BBQ Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2007
After reading reviews of this sauce being too sweet I reduced the brown sugar to 3/4 cup and it was still WAY too sweet. The taste was a bit off too, so I added a couple of tbsps of worchestshire sauce and a little extra ketchup (would have used some tomatoes/tomato paste if I had some on hand). This made it tasty enough to serve but honestly the end result was still too sweet. My kid loved it though, being a kid and loving the sweet stuff! :)

Dry Ranch Style Seasoning for Dip or Dressing

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2007
I don't think pepper is really needed, or the amount called for is way too much. Try adding pepper to taste. For better taste allow it to mellow in the fridge for about an hour or longer, if possible. I used 1/2 fat mayo and 1% Buttermilk. Also, when using the amounts stated, you get a thick dressing. It looked like more of a dip to me, so I added an extra cup of buttermilk to thin it out and a tad more spice to compensate for the additional buttermilk. I REALLY couldn't tell this was a low-fat dressing. My finished dressing was very tasty and turned out to be about 28 calories a tbsp. Next time I want to try fat-free or 95% fat free mayo and see how that tastes. Thanks for the great recipe that has become a keeper for me!

Easy Hummus

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2007
Good base but wasn't creamy enough even after adding about 3 tbsp of the liquid. Next time, and there will be a next time, I will add liquid till it is the consistency I like. I might try adding some plain yogurt as another reviewer suggested, as I felt it was missing a slight dairy taste of some kind. Thanks for sharing!

This was an ok recipe. The dough seemed a bit 'yeasty' for me and maybe a tad salty. But it did roll out nicely and cooked well. Thanks for the recipe. :)

Butter Bean Burgers

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2007
My family found these extremely bland. I followed the recipe except added worchestshire sauce and bread crumbs per other reviewer's suggestions. The patties were still quite crumbly, and although not bad-tasting, not good either. I'm not really sure what could make this recipe a 'keeper' for our family, and I've tried a few variations. It was nice to try something different, though, which is why this recipe got three stars instead of one. Sorry. :-/

D's Famous Salsa

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2007
AMAZING! This is the first recipe I've found on this site that literally made me moan with delight upon tasting it! I made some changes in which tomatoes to use, but other than that - stuck to the recipe. I used 1 can of crushed tomatoes and one can of diced tomatoes. This made a lot of salsa with the other ingredients! I would say around 6-8 cups. The family really enjoyed this, and I certainly won't ever buy salsa if I can at all help it at the store again. Thanks so much for sharing! ~One little side note: This was a bit spicy for my kiddie, so I added some ketchup to their portion (about 1/4 cup to 1 cup of the original), and this addition toned down the spice enough for her~

Bread Pudding II

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2007
I followed Kysha B.'s suggestion to add brown sugar (didn't use any white sugar) & chocolate chips. The family LOVED this!! I was looking for some way to use bread I had slightly overcooked making it too hard to use as buns & came across the suggestion to use leftover bread to make bread pudding. This truly saved the day for me. Thanks for the great recipe, and Kysha B. for their suggestion on additions. :)

Very yummy. I added some steamed broccoli and a couple of potatoes and had this healthy meal for lunch! Next time I might leave out the hot sauce or use less, as it almost overshadowed the soups cheesy taste. Thanks for sharing!
