My children (now adults) always made fun of my cooking. I was terrible! Since retiring in Sep 06 I have started cooking and am really getting good and enjoying myself. My son lives in Arkansas and hasn't tasted my cooking yet says, "That remains to be seen". I am divorced and not looking. Will be moving to Arkansas in Mar 08 to help my son as he is going through med school. He will taste my cooking then!!!
My favorite things to cook
I am a vegetarian so I take alot of meat recipes and change them to faux meat recipes. I especially like many slow cooker recipes as the flavors seem really enhanced. I also make casseroles using faux meat and/or beans. I love stews with lots of chunky veggies and maybe some faux meat.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother is a great cook and passed many things down to me. Her fudge is to die for! My children and I have a tradition for out holdiday meals and it has to be that way for them. Turkey (faux), stuffing, mashed pot, candied yams, green bean casserole, watergate salad, pickles, olives and cranberry sauce. For dessert, apple and cherry pie.
My cooking triumphs
I made a great meatball stew from a recipe I found on allrecipes using faux meatballs. It was so good and my mother and I ate it up. But my greatest triumph so far was a chili recipe that I tweaked quite a bit and it turned absolutely yummy--I was surprised I made it.
My cooking tragedies
I made sweet and sour tofu for my children when they lived at home. Nobody could eat it and my kids asked me throw the recipe away and never use a new recipe again. They wanted me to stick to the things I could make, like spaghetti, meatloaf, baked chicken and frozen dinners.
