Peanut Butter Balls IV

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
For my taste these peanut butter balls were just too sweet, and I did cut the icing sugar down by about 1/2 cup. The balls came together fairly easily and some of my guests enjoyed them, but I don't think I would make them again.

Toasted Garlic Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2009
Great garlic toast - I love the addition of olive oil to the butter mixture. I just baked mine for about 20 minutes or so wrapped in foil, then opened it for a couple of minutes under the broiler. I don't like all that grated cheese on my garlic toast so I put a sprinkle of parmesan in with the butter and just skipped the mozzarella. It was great!

Steamed Lobster Tails

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2009
Very good and very easy! As previously stated, I too think 8 minutes is too long and probably 6 would be fine. I added a little seafood seasoning to the water with the sea salt and the results were delicious! This was the first time I ever cooked lobster and I was feeling a little intimidated, but not anymore!

Heavenly Chocolate Mousse

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2009
This was a delicious dessert. But, I think the success of this recipe lies with a candy thermometer. I was careful to constantly whisk the egg yolks at a very low temperature and it took much much longer then 1 -2 minutes as stated in the recipe. Without the candy thermometer to tell me when it reached the correct temperature, I don't think it would have turned out. Enjoyed by everyone - thankyou!

Dessertlover's Classic Caramel Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2009
Very good and very easy to make - what could be better. I added a bit of brown sugar instead of using all white and think that enhances the flavour. Will definitely make this again - perfect drizzled over our Christmas gingerbread cake.

Mouth-Watering Stuffed Mushrooms

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2009
Very good mushroom caps and a big hit at the party I made them for. I followed the recipe exactly as written, and the only thing I would do differently next time would be to use smaller mushrooms - the filling kind of overwhelms the mushroom in the large caps. Thankyou!

Daria's Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2009
Well I have to give this one 5 stars because my preschooler liked it which in itself is rather remarkable! I pretty much followed the recipe except I'm not much of a measurer - just whatever feels right. I made a couple of small exceptions, used fresh mushrooms - have no use for canned! Didn't have dried chives so added a little onion powder, and I definitely think red wine lends itself to this dish over white so I subbed that. Also for my tastes that much sour cream is too much so I probably used about 2/3 of a cup and the dish turned out very good. Thanks for the recipe.

Roasted Garlic Lemon Broccoli

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2009
I don't usually care for broccoli but had to go back for seconds with this dish. I pretty much followed the recipe to the letter and unlike some others I did not find it too salty. Thanks, will definitely be making this again.

Curry Pumpkin Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2009
Good soup with a nice flavour - perfect amount of spice for my family and even my preschooler enjoyed it. It did add a little chopped onion to the butter and had fresh pumpkin puree so I substitued that for the canned. Thanks!

Really good homemade biscuit recipe. I skipped the cayenne pepper to appeal to the little one but they still turned out great.

Texas Chicken Quesadillas

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2009
These were really good. This was the first time my daughter who's 3 tried quesadillas and this was obviously the recipe to go with as she ate them right up. I went a little easier on the bbq sauce and used some pre-grilled chicken that I had leftover. I added some bell pepper and mushrooms to the skillet with the bbq sauce to get a few more veggies into it. I'll definitely make these again. Thanks.

Balsamic Pea Salad

I'm generally not a big pea salad fan, but I really enjoyed this recipe, as did my guests. The feta cheese was a nice addition and really complimented the balsamic in the dressing. Thanks!

Gnocchi with Sage-Butter Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2009
I enjoyed this dish, but my 3 year old didn't, but no big surprise there! Next time I would go a little bit lighter on the sage or switch to fresh, I felt like that flavour was a little overpowering. Thanks for the recipe.

Watermelon Summer Salad

This salad was really quite good. I made it for a large gathering and everyone was intrigued by it. The flavours of the sweet, salty and mint work really well together for a nicely unique salad. I'll make it again.

Balsamic-Glazed Salmon Fillets

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2009
This wasn't a favorite in my house. I didn't really care for the way these flavours went with the salmon. We did eat it all though, but I probably wouldn't be tempted to make it again.

Honey Baked Chicken II

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2009
I thought this was pretty good. I used boneless skinless chicken breasts so adjusted the cooking time accordingly. I used a bit less butter then what was called for and substitued stoneground dijon mustard for regular. But, the big plus was that my 3 year old ate it so it was a good way to introduce her to curry which she hasn't been keen on previously.

Macaroni and Cheese V

This was a good macaroni and cheese recipe. I added about 1/2 cup of freshly grated parmesan to the cheese mixture. And, I always add a little parmesan to the breadcrumbs for some added flavour. Thanks!

Great Hot Crab Dip

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2009
Made this for New Years Eve and it was excellent. I used one small can of lump crab meat, and green onions instead of white. Also, just for personal preference but probably not necessary I added a bit of parmesan, finely shredded mozzarella and a dash of seafood seasoning. Turned out fantastic!
