About this Cook
I'm very new to the kitchen, but I love to bake, and I'm learning how to make "real food" by following my parents around during dinner prep. I am a pesco-vegetarian (I eat seafood), and although sometimes my diet obviously causes some inconvenience, I am learning so much about the benefits of a more 'green' diet. I live a very active lifestyle - I would say that I exercise at least 30 minutes everyday, a very easy feat when you are living in such a beautiful, clean place like Vancouver! My parents are Chinese, but I was born in Canada, lived a few years in San Jose, CA, before moving back to my beloved Canada. While my parents prepare Asian cuisine 100% of the time, I probably couldn't prepare my native land's food to save my life. But I am so happy to have Asian ancestry - the delicacies that are available are so delicious and unique, and the experience of eating these at home or in China have really marred my impression of North American - Chinese dining. I am currently in high sch

Spool Sugar Cookies
Maybe it was just my carelessness, but i thought it was way too oily. I used this recipe for a pie crust, and I forgot to omit the baking powder/soda, so it turned out looking like a big, yummy pancake! It tasted wonderful though...!

Cocoa Banana Bars
Just the perfect breakfast, snack and dessert! I really love how the banana flavour isn't hidden, it really stands out. I used whole wheat flour and margarine instead for chewier, healthy bite. I also used 3 large mashed bananas, which turned out great, but I just had to leave it in the oven longer.

Cream Cheese Blueberry Pie
I made this twice yesterday for a potluck. It was very well received, and I constantly had to stop whatever I was doing to accept praises from the adults. I changed the recipe so much, it was arguably a different dessert! I made the crust using a sugar cookie recipe but with whole wheat flour. It was too oily, so I had to add more flour, and the baking soda/powder made the crust rise significantly. However, I felt that the whole-grain flour gave great texture. For the filling, I melted white chocolate and mixed it in with softened cream cheese - I think that really made the recipe extraordinary! Try it - all you have to do is melt the white chocolate in the microwave and then stir it in. I used the organic blueberries that I picked last week, and it turned out great. You can mix jams together for a really special flavour. All of the tastes - the sugar cookie crust, the white chocolate filling, and the blueberry topping, made this recipe a real winner!
