Best Whole Wheat Chocolate Chippers

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2009
These truly are the best chocolate chip cookies I've ever had! Made even better by not using white flour, in addition to the W.W. Flour I added some Flax Meal. I didn't do nuts this time, maybe next time. I baked them for the 10 min. suggested and let sit on the cookie sheet for 2 min. and then moved to cooling rack. Perfect! Only other suggestion is that if you have a dog, keep these and any chocolate away from him. My 2 yr. old puppy ate 1/2 of one before I could catch him. Chocolate can kill dogs. Thanks for a great recipe. Oh, and have a cold glass of milk available for dunking.

Garlic Butter

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
This is a very good recipe, excellent for bread and potatoes I can see. Definitely do go easy on the spices, you can always and should flavor to your taste. I did only 1 tsp. of garlic salt, and about 1/2 tsp. of regular salt. From there I just fine tuned it. The paprika is just good for color. Thanks Denyse.

Soft Garlic Breadsticks

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
These were very good. I also served with the garlic butter recipe from here. I look forward to serving these again. When you do the second rise in your oven, set your oven for 250-300 degrees. Then bake. Very tasty. Thanks Charles. I served these with Jambalaya.

Perfect Baked Potato

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2009
These are very easy to prepare. Two tips that I used: Olive oil--I just put some on a kitchen towel and rubbed it on the potato. Yes, it still gets on your hand, but not as much. Besides it's just oil. Other tip, I had some coarse ground sea salt. But, it wouldn't stay on the potato, so I ground it up in my Magic Bullet and that was just right. I will rate this for taste after we eat. We have eaten now: This is the only way we will do baked potatoes from now on. So very good. Our toppings were fried onions, steamed broccoli, grated cheese, butter, salt and pepper. Thanks, very excellent recipe.

Over the Top Nachos

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2009
Excellent recipe for Nachos. Quick, easy and oh so tasty. I made the taco seasoning from this site, and also included on the nachos, tomatillos, avocados, a green sauce(tomatillo) and green onions. The best nachos ever. Thanks Charlie.

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2009
Based on smell and the fact that I had everything w/o having to buy anything, 4 stars just on that. Am making nachos later tonight, will review again after we've had some nachos. I'm also thinking of using some of this in my Spanish rice dish.

Millet-Stuffed Peppers

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2009
This recipe is good as is, if you don't like spicy food. Otherwise, add some spice to it, we used chili powder, cumin, and some Italian Seasoning--a lot of all 3. You don't need any more salt. Perhaps pepper, garlic, and/or onion. After we put it in the peppers, I topped them with some bread crumbs and last but not least, some shredded parmesan cheese. That was the only cheese I had in the house. We don't microwave anything, so, we baked it at 350 for 30 min., the recipe says until tender. It came out real good with the suggestions made here. Thanks Susan.

Simple Whole Roasted Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2009
WOW!! I don't know what I could say that hasn't already been said. I followed the recipe as written, except I omitted the garlic. My hubby and I loved it. I ordinarily don't like the skin on poultry, but, this was so beautifully black and so tasty, I ate the skin last night. The rest of the chicken is for dinner tonight. I did double the amount of spices, and let it marinate for about 8 hours. When I do roast chicken, I will cook it this way. Thanks for a simply great, and inexpensive recipe.

Mom's Traditional Creamed Onions

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2009
This was excellent!! The last time I had creamed onions, they were frozen! This was way better and much tastier. Here is what I did: Bring the water to a boil, and drop your onions in, skins and all, let them boil for 1-2 min., drain them. Then, you cut them, by doing it this way, it is much easier. Far as the white sauce goes, equal amounts of butter and flour, combine the milk with the cooking water. I did it a cup at a time. 1 C. of cooking water mixed with 1 C. of milk, pour that in gradually. The spices I used were salt and pepper to taste, and Paprika. On any spice, you can always add more of it at the end, so go sparingly while in the pan. Paprika is a great spice, a nice hint of color, and a great taste too. My husband and I loved this dish, he's never had them before and he enjoyed this. Will definitely be making this again. Thanks Ibby! Really enjoyed it.

Granola Raisin Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2009
So far, I'm rating this a 3 because I had to add so much extra flour. That might be because I'm using regular white flour, but, in all the other yeast bread recipes from this site that I've made, I've never had this problem. It's going fine now in my bread machine. Will update later. UPDATE: The bread is delicious! It came out of my bread machine beautifully! Very pleased with the taste, and texture. Will make again. Next time I make this I will use bread flour and see if it does make a difference. It has a slightly sweet taste, but, it is one of the best I've made from this site. Thanks. P.S. If it doesn't register, I changed my rating from 3 to 5.

Buttery Cranberry Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2009
Wow!! This is so very good. I did modify it slightly per other reviewers suggestions. I like tart foods, like Rhubarb, Cranberry, and lemon. But, I did agree with the reviewer that felt that the lemon juice in a Cranberry Pie might be to much. Did not use it at all. Also, did not add any salt, I couldn't see why I should add it. It didn't seem necessary. I subbed additional water in place of the lemon juice and I subbed some extra sugar for the salt. I also added some Fuji apples. That also helps to cut down on the tartness of the berries. My topping was a crumb one was from this site. It was wonderful. My husband is the opposite of me, where I love tart foods, he doesn't. He likes this pie. I also added a pinch of orange zest, but didn't have any mace(will next time). For the crumb topping, you might want to check it at 30 min., mine went the full 40 and came out almost burnt. Delicious!!

I just wanted to try this, it sounded very different, but, in a good way. We were not disappointed with the taste. Good idea with a tasty ending. Next time I make it, I will increase the amt of nutmeg, S & P.

Baked Cranberry Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2008
Wow!! This is great! The only thing I will change next time is letting my frozen cranberries thaw. I did not do that and as a result of that, had a lot of liquid in the dish, still good though. My only modification is what a previous reviewer suggested. She subbed 1/3 C. of Apple juice for the equal amt. of brandy, and added 1 T. of brandy. That's what I did and I loved the results. I love cranberries anyway. Thanks

Apple Raisin French Toast Strata

This was very good. I also beat the cream cheese with powdered sugar, and vanilla, then spread on bread. I think that was probably better than chunks of cream cheese throughout. It made a nice start to our Christmas morn,. 2008. Thanks!

Bread Pudding II

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2008
This is really good, except for one thing. I make our bread, and so on Mon. I made the bread, and Tues. made this recipe. I did not change anything, it came out a slight bit dry. I'm thinking it's result of homemade bread. Store bread doesn't soak up quite as much moisture as homemade does. For that reason, I will make this several more times, and I will increase the amt of milk first. From 2 C. to 2 1/2 C. If that doesn't quite do it I will add 1 more egg. I'll keep you all updated on it. It really is worth figuring out the ratios for me. It's delicious. Thanks.
