I am a senior in college and I have been cooking for quiet a while with my mom and grandmother but I have only been cooking for my own home for about 4yrs. I enjoy cooking for everyone in my life and feel that I am still learning but getting better everyday. I think that I am incredibly lucky because I still live very close to my mother and rely on her tips often and make her taste just about everything I make.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook things that my neices and small cousins will enjoy. I love to bake cookies or decorate cupcakes that put a smile on their faces. I also love taking traditionally non-healthy recipes and making them healthier.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love Thanksgiving and Christmas like many other people. During Thanksgiving I always get request for my pecan pies. Christmas time desserts and candies are completely left up to me now. I love making the same candies that my grandmother has made since I was little...she gets to sit back and just enjoy them while I do all of the work making them - and I love every minute of it :)!
My cooking triumphs
Since I grew up in southern Louisiana for part of my childhood I know what real cajun food is supposed to taste like. My mother lived there into her late 30's and much of my family is still there - cajun food has a huge presence in our households. So when I make something cajun and it gets my mothers stamp of approval thats when I actually feel like a cook.
My cooking tragedies
wow... there are a few cookie tragedies... and some bisquit tragedies... who doesn't have a few tragedies - best way to learn in my opinion!
