My Daughter and I
About this Cook
I am a Georgia native and the mother to a beautiful little girl. Health and nutrition are extremely important to me, and cooking has become perhaps my biggest passion. Despite being a tightwad in every other aspect of my life, I tend to use premium organic ingredients and I don't like taking shortcuts by substituting premade ingredients. I'd rather take the time to make something truly homemade. Food is a very special thing and it brings people together like nothing else can, so I consider it to be very important!
My favorite things to cook
I love baking desserts and also eating desserts! I love making breakfast, like gourmet muffin recipes and frittatas. Dinner-wise, I love using fresh seasonal produce and anything that allows the true flavor of the food to shine through without just cooking it to death. And there's nothing like a savory pumpkin soup on a fall day!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother makes a terrific vegetable soup that I will never, ever grow tired of making. My father also used to make honey BBQ wings on the grill when I was young, and the smell of charcoal brings back so many memories now! He also makes a wonderful fried corn (using bacon grease) for the holidays that I always look forward to.
My cooking triumphs
I made my own hybrid buttercream-wedding cake icing recipe for cakes and it is my go-to recipe for life. It goes perfectly with ANY cake. It's stiff, flavorful, slightly buttery, responds well to gel coloring and pipes beautifully. The recipe is top-secret, but here's a hint: I use a quality creme bouquet and the flavor is to die for!
My cooking tragedies
When I was younger, as in probably 10 years old, I tried a sour cream candy recipe that just didn't turn out. Although I still maintain to this day that it wasn't my fault, and it still tasted the way it was supposed to, my family ridiculed my cooking blunder at the time and wouldn't even try it. I was crushed!

Honey Mustard Chicken with Pretzel Crust
So good! I thought this would be best just for a casual weeknight dinner, but imagine my surprise when I discovered that this is a dish fit to serve to company! The only possible downside to note is that the pretzel breading is best when served fresh out of the oven. If allowed to sit, it tends to soften and lose its crunch. If you know you'll have leftovers, reserve the honey mustard sauce from the last step and don't put it on the chicken until you're reheating. I would recommend reheating in the oven at about 325 for 10 minutes, which should help restore some crispiness to the breading after being stored in a humid refrigerator.
