About this Cook
I am happily married and have a son, named Stone. He was born in August 2008. He definitely keeps me busy at home. We live on a large cattle ranch in southwestern South Dakota. We raise black angus cross cows/calves and breed/raise quarter horses. I spend most of my days taking care of my son, being the ranch cook, and helping outside as much as possible. We are involved in rodeo, but I haven't found much time to spend with my horses (or in the arena) since Stone was born. I am looking forward to that changing this spring. Other than that, I love being a mom and I love the fact that Stone will grow up the same way that I did (on the ranch with both parents present). I also love to cook and am always looking for new things to make. Allrecipes.com is my favorite site of all time!!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake cookies, pies, banana bread, zucchini bread, deserts, etc. We eat a lot of beef so I am constantly searching for new recipes to try to spice things up a bit. I love to cook for my family (so I love to cook just about everything).
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandma and mom are both incredible cooks. I am trying to follow in their footsteps. I love to make things that I remember from my childhood (just like grandma did). We always try to get together for the major holidays. There's nothing like enjoying the company of family and friends over a homemade meal.
My cooking triumphs
I mastered my grandma's Lemon Meringue pie recipe. It is incredible! I have gotten to be a very good baker. Now I'd like to master making bread and rolls (something that I am a novice at). I know that it takes a lot of practice to be a good bread baker. I'm up for the task!
My cooking tragedies
I haven't had a lot of tragedies (thankfully). I did try to make my grandma's bread (just once so far) and I didn't check the expiration on the yeast. Needless to say, it never raised and ended up getting thrown out. I will master bread making.....if it's the last thing I do! :)

Philly Steak Sandwich
EXCELLENT!! I have made a practice of making these when I have left over roast beef. These sandwiches have quickly become a family favorite!

Grandma's Lemon Meringue Pie
Incredible! Just like my Gram used to make. I follow the recipe to the letter except that I add a tad more lemon flavoring and more lemon zest. I've made this several times and it's usually gone by the end of the day! My hubby absolutely loves this pie (and so do I)!

Surprise Apple Salad
A neighbor gal brought this salad to my son's first birthday party. It was truly amazing! I asked for the recipe right away (as did all the other ladies there). The only difference in her recipe and this one is that she also added a box of Vanilla Pudding. It gives it a really good vanilla flavor. A great side if you need something light and sweet!
