About this Cook
By profession I'm a registered nurse, but I dip my hands into the domestic arts for the sake of my sanity, and to keep my husband from starvation.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom comes from a Swedish family with an arsenal of baking and holiday recipes that have been handed down through the generations. I'm quite convinced that all those women came out of the womb with rolling pin and dough in hand. I'm still trying to catch up.
My cooking triumphs
I can cook spaghetti with italian meatballs to die for. Only problem is my husband is deathly afraid of spaghetti, so I never make it. Other than that, I can't cook much, although I've seemed to fool my husband pretty well into thinking I'm a good cook.
My cooking tragedies
Hmm, Up to this point, I've managed to avoid all out tragedies, but there are frequently things I make which can use improvement.

Oven-Barbecued Pork Chops
I made a few modifications according to my own taste and other's reviews. I only cooked two chops, but still made the same amount of sauce. For the sauce, I decreased the vinegar to 1 T, added 1 T of honey, omitted the chili powder (we're not big fans of spicy bbq sauce), and added 1/2 tsp. garlic powder, 1/2 tsp onion powder, and 1/4 tsp ground cloves. The resulting sauce had a fabulous zip and flavor without being too spicy. The cloves really made the sauce. I will be definitely be making this again and would like to make this sauce to grill with as well. As an additional note, I decreased the cooking time to 45 min (which was more than enough) and halfway through baking, I turned the chops and coated them with the second half of the sauce.

Salmon with Lemon and Dill
This has become my regular salmon recipe. Very tasty. I prefer to mix the lemon, butter, and seasonings together and then pour them over the salmon to avoid having all the dill caked on top of the salmon. I find this distributes the flavors much better.

Skillet Pork Chops with Potatoes and Onion
This is a good, easy, tasty staple. We thought the potatoes were especially delicious (I for one, couldn't get enough!). I did cut down on the onions and used just one onion instead of two, which was still more than enough. Will make again!
