About this Cook
I am 26 years old and just got married last year, October 2006. I am a respiratory therapist and also sell lia sophia jewelry. My husband and I love playing with and spending time with our 2 dogs, Rudy and Libby, both black lab mixes, that we rescued from two different shelters. I enjoy bowling with my girlfriends in our Monday night league, our team, The Contenders.
My favorite things to cook
Pasta with oil and garlic sauce, baked macaroni and cheese, beer-battered fish and chicken, vegetables cooked in garlic and olive oil My husband's favorite, the most time-consuming of them all, Stuffed Cabbage Making anything on the grill (I worked in a restaurant through high school and college and spent a lot of that time cooking in the back. It was a Bonanza Steakhouse, so we had a huge grill) Baking cookies, cakes, brownies. Making stuff up as I go. I have a spice rack and I like to use it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
YAMS for every holiday. There's nothing like mushy, brown sugar covered sweet potatoes. Along with my Grandmom Souders' recipe for potato filling. SO delicious. I look forward to Thanksgiving, not for the turkey!
My cooking triumphs
On my mother side of the family, my grandfather was Polish. I never learned much about Polish cooking but I really wanted to try to make stuffed cabbage. I pulled up some recipes for stuffed cabbage, actually on this website and used them to help me through this task. I took what I knew and the help from the recipes I found and made a orgeous stuffed cabbage dinner. I invited my parents over for dinner that night, and it was a HUGE hit. My mom said it tasted just like her mom used to make. I was proud because everyone enjoyed it and I put a lot of work into making them. My Grandmom Souders, my dad's side, was an excellent cook. She was a great baker, too. I have tried making many of her recipes as well with great success. My mom tells me I must have the Souders knack for cooking.
My cooking tragedies
The times I usually mess things up is when I use something processed, packaged, or pre-made!
