I am a stay at home mom of four young kids. I am easily bored by cooking the same foods over and over again, so the majority of our meals are new ones we try. Of course, we have our old favorites that are requested by the family. I try to stay away from overly processed foods and so end up cooking alot from scratch, but as a busy mom convenience is sometimes a blessing and I'll give in to the the call of boxed mac and cheese ;o)
My favorite things to cook
I like to try anything new. I think that I cook better than I bake, but I enjoy baking as well. I enjoy cooking with the seasons, lots of fresh fruits and veggies in the summer, warm stews and meat pies in the winter. I also love canning our fruits and vegetables from our orchard and garden.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love to try and have a delicious snack ready for the kids when they arrive home from school. Something to fuel them through rehearsals, homework, and practices until dinner. We have a large extended family and enjoy having everyone over to watch a movie or play a game of baseball. There is always a potluck meal with lot's of food. It's a great way for us all to stay in touch.
My cooking triumphs
There is nothing prettier than a pantry full of dozens of glinting mason jars filled with jams, pickles, peaches, and tomatoes. At the end of autumn, after I have spent countless hours filling those jars, I always have a sense of being all tucked in and ready for winter.
My cooking tragedies
Spanish rice. Over and over again.
