About this Cook
I have two adorable kids- my daughter, Aiven, and my son, Urijah- and a great husband. I like to take traditional recipes and tweak them to make them healthy and more flavorful. My husband is a diabetic so we're very careful about what we eat, but it has to taste GREAT. I write about our family in my blog, tattoosandteethingrings.blogspot.com - come by and visit me!
My favorite things to cook
Family favorites include turkey burger sliders, homemade pizza, pizza pasta, spinach and turkey meatballs, fried chicken...lots of yummy stuff!
My favorite family cooking traditions
We have always done a big Thanksgiving, even if there were only four people. And now I'm teaching my daughter how to cook, so hopefully she won't be living on take-out when she goes to college.
My cooking triumphs
I have finally mastered a homemade pizza crust. I'm most proud of being able to cook foods that really are healthy and delicious, so that we don't even think of it as "health" food, just yummy food.
My cooking tragedies
Until recently I couldn't make homemade pizza dough. Other than that, I can't think if anything that wasn't at least edible.

Braided Easter Egg Bread
I rarely rate a recipe this low but I can't think of anything about it that turned out right except that the eggs looked pretty. I've made breads before and I followed the recipe exactly, and the dough was incredibly sticky, the braid was very difficult to make and looked like a big circle not a twist. If it had at least tasted good I would've been OK with the way it looked, but it was horrible. Not sure what went wrong.

French Bread
I think I need to work at this a little more; my loaves turned out tastey but they stuck to the sheet pan even with the cornmeal. They were also a little skinny, didn't rise very much. Overall I would recommend this recipe but I may have to tinker with it a bit.

Dessertlover's Classic Caramel Sauce
Delicious! I let it cook for about 12-13 minutes in the initial cooking process (sugar, water, butter); it wasn't quite as dark as I expected but I didn't want to burn it. Also, when it cooked in the second round I cooked it the full 10 minutes, and it did seem quite thin, which I had read in some reviews. However, after letting it cool and set in the fridge it thickened up just fine. As I mentioned, it was a little pale, but it tasted amazing so I don't think I'd change a thing!
