About this Cook
I am down to earth and traditional in every way. My faith and my family are my cornerstones. I enjoy family get-togethers and see them enjoy their favorite foods. I love to try new foods and encourage my kids to help in the kitchen so they can learn all the family traditions. We are 100% Cajun and spicy is our priority when it comes to our favorite foods.
My favorite things to cook
Homemade soups, chicken stew, smothered pork chops, jambalaya, traditional holiday meals, red beans and rice, pork loin, smothered steak, chicken spaghetti, meatballs and brow or secret gravy. Garlic bread with cajun spread, black skillet cornbread and corn muffins are our favorite breads. Pineapple upside down cake, strawberry banana waffles, banana pudding, cocktail pudding and anything bunt are our favorite desserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Everything is slow cooked and we cook over a few days to prepare for the big day. I am blessed to have two older daughters who help with many of the items so all I have to worry with is the meat dishes and bread. We are fans of black skillets and pots, they just add that special flavor.
My cooking triumphs
Everything! LOL I could only boil weiners and scramble eggs when I got married. (my poor hubby) His mother taught me how to cook dry beans and my mother taught me how to prepare brown gravy, from scratch, and rice. I was very thankful for box dinners (hamburger helper) for many months.
My cooking tragedies
My first brown gravy...it was slush and burnt. My first attempt at garden mustard greens, I did not know you were suppose to wash them before cooking....ewwww they were very gritty! I was horrible at burning all the bread(s) until my husband introduced me to a double timer! =)

Sweet Potato Bake
I have been making this recipe for over 25 years and have passed down the prep chores to oldest daughter. It is always requested side dish, year after year! This is the perfect match for that special turkey or ham.
