I just moved to the icy tundra of North Dakota with my husband, Dylan, pug Moses and beautiful daughter, Ada Bailey. We both love to cook, I especially love to bake, and am so glad that there are forums such as this for when I need some new ideas or want a few questions answered. I enjoy Autumn walks, reading, beading, crosswords, and Gerbera Daisies.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook are bulgogi, steak and portabello fried rice, over-easy eggs (I am a breakfast fanatic), chap chae, mini cheddar loaves with sweet sauce, and garlic, cream, and white wine ravioli. I also love to bake and a few of my favorite things to make are the standard chocolate chip and ginger snap cookie varieties, pumpkin cranberry bread, and cheesecakes and muffins of all kinds.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up watching my Father in the kitchen and he definitely influenced my love of baking and simple, delicious meals. One of my favorite things that we would do together was mix up batches of ginger snap cookies and burn our tongues with impatience as we sampled the first pan. I also remember watching him throw together "this and that" to make dishes that I will pass onto my own children, such as egg spaghetti, German pancakes, etc.
Now I love cooking with my husband and then sitting down to a wonderful meal to enjoy together. We love trying new dishes and experimenting with new foods and are ecstatic at the thought of starting new cooking/baking traditions with our children.
My cooking triumphs
I think the one cooking experience that I am most proud of was the first time that I successfully made a cheesecake. There were cracks and it browned...but I just remember being so proud of myself. My family ate it up and asked for more and that's when I knew that baking was for me.
My cooking tragedies
Oh my goodness...there are just too many to mention. I think the biggest unifying factor in my umpteenth cooking tragedies is over seasoning and not letting the ingredients shine.
