About this Cook
My mother is one of the best Southern Cooks around, so I have a lot of live up to, but I'm trying new things and mastering some of the old, and getting better. I finally mastered biscuits and gravy!
My favorite things to cook
I love casseroles and slow-cooker recipes that just wow you! And soups! Soups are my all-time favorite! I work full time so it's great to leave your food all day and come home to a meal!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mom has several recipes that I have tried to carry on--her biscuits and gravy, chicken and dumplings, cornbread, chile, great desserts like sour cream coconut cake and dream pie. She makes a gumbo to die for, which I have yet to get the recipe for. I do make vegetable beef soup that is yummy!
My cooking triumphs
My Mom is a pie baker and I don't really try them often, but I did make a great pecan pie this last Christmas! Also, sour cream coconut cake (double layer) that turned out great, and I've finally mastered Lasagna.
My cooking tragedies
I substituted powered sugar for flour in a batch of chocolate chip cookies 2 years ago. I couldn't figure out why the cookies were bubbling in the oven like a bad science project! Also, one Christmas I tried homeade cheesecake, beat it too long or something because when I baked it it tore open like the San Andreas fault after an earthquake! Then I compounded the disaster by adding a quart of frozen red raspberries and when they thawed it looked like a bloodbath. These things help keep me humble, what can I say!

Peppered Bacon and Tomato Linguine
My husband absolutely loved this dish. I cut the amount of pasta in half because it was only the two of us and used italian diced tomatoes, otherwise everything was the same. My husband wants me to add shrimp to this dish and serve it for his birthday!

Sour Cream Pork Chops
I also added a can of cream of mushroom soup to the mix. My husband claims this is now is very favorite dinner - it has dethroned everything else! It's very simple to make and it was wonderful to have dinner practically done by the time I got home from work. Thanks!
