About this Cook
Married now 26 1/2 years.(Had to ask my honey he keeps track of that I'm too busy) Our Son is 25 and finally on his own again. And I have 3 stepchildren all adults on their own. We live in Ramona, Ca for 19 years in the same house. Love my Pugs and gardening the sunshine, and my pool.
My favorite things to cook
Love making soups, and one pot dinners, pasta dishes, casseroles, cakes, cookies. I'm no good at pies. Hubby is though, so that takes care of that.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Hubby makes pumpkin pies, cherry, and apple for Thanksgiving, and in a coon's age for Christmas. We do love to BBQ, and entertain guests, around the pool.
My cooking triumphs
My cooking triumphs, is when all is ready and hot at the same time for a large crowd....WHEW....
My cooking tragedies
I decided to make 100% whole wheat bread from wheat grains I had aquired. I put them in the blender to make a flour. Well Sort of flour....Made the fresh bread dinner rolls, and it sure made the kitchen smell wonderful. We were all around the table waiting for the rolls to cool to eat. I served them up and boy was I proud. UNTIL....we tried to put a knife through them to cut them for adding butter and jelly. Holy Moly the knives would not even make a dent in the rolls. We took them outside and threw them on the concrete, and they barely dented or cracked. Never attempted to make that again...ever !!!! My husband years later bought me a wonderful bread machine. I have made over 100 loaves of bread in that machine, various breads. But I can't make it the old fashioned way. Never got the knack.

Herman Pancakes
This is a keeper. These puffed up nice. I added a grated gala apple, and 1 tsp Cinnamon, 1 tsp vanilla. Although I used 1 cup Sourdough Starter, without sugar. Amish Starter is the new Herman Starter. And I think Herman changed it's name LOL. Good Recipe that is for sure.

Sourdough Pancakes
A Keeper. Made them this morning for my Uncle and I and he just loved them. I thought from the rest of the reviews they would be thin like crepes, but heaven's no and just delicious. The only flour in these is the flour in the starter. I made my first batch of starter from a Family Recipe yesterday and used it this morning. So, old starter may have had a stronger sourdough flavor. I made these using my very thick gloppy starter, so the 3/4 cup may have been a cup full or almost. This isn't a science either. I use a cast iron griddle that covers 2 stove burners and used my 2oz Stainless Scoop as a measure. I got 9 pancakes 4 1/2- 5" pancakes. My picky adult Son said these are good Mom. Keep this recipe. They did puff up in the centers and just like all pancakes flattened down as they cooled a bit. This recipe was very easy and quick to make and no problems, and certainly these pancakes are not flat. Different starters such as the runny ones will make a difference, in that case then add a bit of flour to a thicker consistency. Flavor and texture are nearly as good as any other pancake on the market. We ususally always use Krusteaz and I have to thin that alot to get the batter to spread out. This is a Keeper.

Beautiful Summer Salad
This recipe was a beginning for me just now. I added finely chopped celery,a good amount of chopped fresh basil, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and about 2 tbl of a Lite Italian Dressing, and a heavy sprinkling of a No Salt Seasoning. This is tasting very good now. I felt it was too bland before, and too much of the papaya flavor came thru. Papaya is ok until the after taste hits. Ick. I am trying now to remember why I bought the ugly thing in the first place. But, I thank the submitter for sharing and allrecipes.com for posting it.This salad turned out great with my additions.
