About this Cook
I'm a poor graduate student who enjoys cooking and baking when time allows. I've been destroying kitchens since 2005.
My favorite things to cook
Seasonal dishes, seafood, soups, vegetables, healthy foods, spicy foods, desserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Italian side has some great recipes, but they are still a little difficult for me or make way too much. My father is my culinary inspiration. Someday I hope I have his savvy with flavors, sense of timing, and pinache with the utensils.
My cooking triumphs
Amazing brownies for a roommate's birthday. Some great soups last winter, including wildrice and lentil. Delicious peanut brittle and heavenly fudge last xmas. Superb potato salad last spring. Awesome apple/raspberry pie. Getting better at being creative and doctoring recipes. My goal is to be independent and able to work without a net, so to speak. Still working on the perfect Pico de Gallo and guacamole...
My cooking tragedies
The stuffed mushrooms from last thanksgiving... OH MY GOD SO BAD. That loaf of banana bread that tasted horrible. Roof shingle-like brownies. BURNED peppermint bark (what a disaster!).

Mom's Zucchini Bread
Delicious, moist, and just sweet enough! I decided to add chocolate chips at the last moment, but I don't think it needs them! Next time I'll try it without!

Tiramisu II
This was spectacular! I also doubled the rum and espresso and it was the perfect amount. I made it in a springform pan so I could decorate the sides with more ladyfingers. I did what another reviewer suggested and dipped the ladyfingers lengthwise in the rum/espresso and then flipped them over in the pan to let the liquid soak down. Not too soggy at all! I waited 24 hours to try it and it only got better after that! A great recipe!

Asian Roll Lettuce Wrap
WOW! This was delicious! Both meatballs and sauce had a wonderful, gingery zing! Don't go light on the garlic and ginger! I used ground beef instead of ground turkey. I may have over-broiled my meatballs, but with a little added sauce, they were moist again. I had a little trouble keeping the meatballs in the lettuce wrap while I was trying to eat it, but it hardly mattered! Terrific recipe, highly recommended!
