My husband made these for my birthday dinner - this marinade is amazing! I couldn't believe the depth of flavor. We will be making this again for sure!

This is a great recipe, although I messed with it - not too much though. I used a boxed lemon cake recipe and added fresh lemon juice to the batter. I made the custard mix with more fresh lemon juice instead of the water/grape juice and also didn't go low-fat (I was feeding a bunch of guys, they don't care). Instead of the strawberries I made a fresh blueberry, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice compote and poured it between the layers of cake and custard. I also made a batch of whipped cream to spread and sprinkled blueberries on top. It was wonderful - thanks for the recipe - I would like to try it with strawberries too.

Didn't use the walnuts or the frosting - but added a bunch of chocolate chips...I've always been a fan of my mom's chocolate zucchini cake, and these are a close contender. Made a batch and invited friends over for game night - they disappeared. Thanks for this great recipe!
