I grew up in the North eating many German dishes that had been handed down through the generations. Now I live in the South and I am learning the different cuisines here. I always like to bring a little of the German to the south because you just can't find a good German bratwurst with kraut here.
My favorite things to cook
I love trying new things and will always bring something new to cookouts and gatherings. If it doesn't turn out and no one likes it, then I just don't make it again and I move on to the next thing. My family are wonderful guinea pigs.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving...it's a great pot luck.
My cooking triumphs
Preparing a recipe of escalloped corn that my ex-husbands grandmother had given me a recipe for...that was her dish for decades. When she was not able to make it anymore it was left to me. She said it tasted as good as hers...which was her seal of approval.
My cooking tragedies
I was preparing a large pot roast for my family and my in-laws. I started it in the slow cooker late the night before on medium. In the morning I forgot to turn it to low/warm for the remainder of the day and when I got home it was so dried out and all the juices had simmered away. You could have used the meat as a door stop and the potatoes as hockey pucks.
