About this Cook
I'm a stay at home mom of one daughter (she's the single greatest thing I've done). My husband and I have been together almost 10 years and he is my best friend. We're that couple that other couples like to hate 'cause we never fight! He's born and raised in Oklahoma. I've lived all over the place. A long time ago he cooked in a restaurant but since finding me he hasn't cooked so much as an egg! We live on a cattle ranch and life is GOOD. My husband is my cowboy! Every woman needs one :D I have not always been a (self proclaimed) cowgirl, though I have lived in the country more than the city. For about a dozen or so years I was a hairstylist. Then I met my husband and we moved to the country. It's a great place to raise our daughter. She's my little shadow....8 going on 18 UGGHHH!
My favorite things to cook
I make a mean spaghetti sauce, before my husband met me he wouldn't eat spaghetti. The first time I made it for him he had 3 plates full! Now it's a favorite. There are now a couple meatball recipes from AR that I love. I never used to like meatballs. They are Lana's Sweet and Sour Meatballs and Honey-Garlic Glazed Meatballs. I highly recommend them.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I fixed Christmas dinner last year. Does that count as a tradition?! Most all my family live too far away. By having my daughter in the kitchen with me I believe I'm instilling in her a love of cooking that I hope she will pass on to her children one day.
My cooking triumphs
I've always had a hard time with pan-fried pork chops. Recently, after watching Rachel Ray, my pork chops came out JUICY, yeah!! Usually they are dry and tasteless.
My cooking tragedies
See the pork chop story above. My pork chops have always been smothered and cooked very slow or they didn't turn out. Now I'm pan-frying with confidence. I used what Rachel Ray taught me to also pan-fry a steak. My steaks have usually suffered the same fate as the pork chop. Not anymore.

Peasant Bread
Very easy to make! I even messed up and put the melted margarine IN the bread instead of brushing it on the top. This made two free form loaves, one round and one long. Not sweet at all and the texture was chewy. This bread sliced very well and would make a great sandwich bread (no crumbs!). A big hit with the family, too. Thanks for the recipe!

Crusty French Bread
Excellent!! Better than store bought any day. I followed the recipe with the following exception....when you add your yeast to the warm water, add your sugar and nothing else til AFTER the yeast proofs. Don't add the salt til later...I usually add it in the flour, as it kills the yeast when added too soon. After about 10 minutes the yeast was ready so I added everything else then. Let it rise in the (cold) oven with only the light inside as the heat source. It will rise fine this way. Took 27 minutes to bake. This is a keeper! Thanks.

Romanian Apple Cake
This cake is awesome! Sassyoldlady's picture of this cake made me want to try it. I had only 4 Granny Smith apples and not quite enough sugar. So I used about a half a cup of home made syrup (the Absolute Best Pancake syrup from this site) in addition to a cup of sugar. Baked this in a bundt pan. I baked it for 45 minutes and topped it with the syrup mentioned above. Definitely a keeper!! Thanks
