I am a mother of 4 boys/teenagers. I am also the oldest of 4 kids and a working mother. I have been cooking since I was 12 years old, and LOVE it. I am not gourmet chef. Just a cook. From what others say, I guess I'm good at it. But, you are only good at the things you enjoy doing.
My favorite things to cook
I really love coming up with different soups. They are comforting, filling, and with 4 boys... the most inexpensive way to feed a family! But what I love most is making the big holiday meals. Or cooking for an Army of guests.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Getting up at the crack of dawn to make the stuffing for the turkey on Thanksgiving with my mom will always be my favorite thing. When I was little I use to get to tear up the bread for the stuffing. Now that shes older, she tears the bread, and I do the cooking. Its one of my favorite memories, and my kids toast and tear the bread for me now too.
My cooking triumphs
I guess this would have to be my potato salad. Everyone raves about it. One of these days I am going to have to measure my ingredients, ( i kinda just dump and eyeball things) so that I can post the recipe. My sister would be over joyed.
My cooking tragedies
I decided one year to grow all my own herbs. I love to garden and the smell of fresh herbs is so wonderful. Well... I really hadn't used much fresh sage, so I put about 5 leaves on my pork roast, in the crock pot. It was horrible from what I understand. I don't eat pork much myself so I didn't have any. My husband told me, " i think there must be something wrong with your crock pot honey. The roast was barely palatable!!!" To this day I havne't told him what made it taste so bad. He still gets nervous when I get the crock pot out!!!
