My Fairytale House
About this Cook
I am married and have a part time job and also own and run Maria's Bed & Breakfast in Amish country, Ohio. I love to cook and bake and I serve a full breakfast for guests and depend heavily on all recipes.
My favorite things to cook
Everything, really!! I love to make pie, bread & especially breakfasts. I try to stay away from desserts and am cooking more healthy than ever! It makes a huge difference in our weight and the way we feel!!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holidays! I especially love July 4th. We have a BIG small town parade each year and I always have the whole family over for the same cookout each year.
My cooking triumphs
I just recently had great success in making my first apple pie all by myself including the crust. It was a smashing success. My husband and I recently catered a wedding of 250 mostly by ourselves! Hard work, but a HUGE success. My B&B guests rave over the breakfasts!
My cooking tragedies
I had one mild one that I can remember. I was making chili soup at a school where I worked and accidently put extra red pepper instead of chili powder just b4 serving because I thought it was a bit flat. Too late....but some did tell me later it was the best chili they ever had. It was the ones who loved spicy things. The rest.....well, dranks lots of water.

Marshmallow Treats
thes are addictive. i usually add slightly more marshmallows so it's a bit more gooey. it's really good to brown the butter a bit b4 adding marshmallows.

Raisin Buttermilk Coffee Cake
The texture is so amazing.....I can't describe it, but it's different than any I have ever made. I gave it only 4 stars since it is way too sweet. Also, the crumb topping was too wet and doughy, so the next time I will use my tried and true crumb recipe. Otherwise, it's the BOMB!!!
