I was born and raised in Muskogee, Ok. I moved to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands and lived there for 6 yrs. My mom lives in Lafayette, LA. My cooking style reflects mostly those 3 places. I've lived in Texas, Ft. Lauderdale, Indianapolis and Colorado as well. So, I've picked up a few cooking styles everywhere I've been. :-)
My favorite things to cook
Hmmm, my boyfriend loves my lasagna and chicken noodle soup, so I make those a lot. I like to try new things that make people go wow... Wasabi Mashed potatoes, pan seared sea bass, fish tacos, southern cornbread and oyster stuffing, ect..
My favorite family cooking traditions
Was always Christmas. My mom makes her sugar cookies and all the kids sat around the table and put icing on them. I got to do that for the first time in a long time when I visited my mom for xmas this past year.
My cooking triumphs
Pan seared sea bass! And I redeemed myself this past easter cooking for my boyfriends family.
My cooking tragedies
Would have to be Easter dinner 4 yrs ago. I was cooking for friends of ours and I got distracted on the phone with my daughter and I ended up burning everything. The story comes up sometimes, but my friends tease me about it cause they say I'm such a good good cook. The other one would be when I was 16 and I was cooking for my boyfriend and his friend. I broke out a George Foreman like grill and started cooking bar-b-que grilled chicken. Somehow the grill lite on fire and burned some of the kitchen cabnites right as my parents where walking in the front door. They helped put the fire out on the grill. LOL! Cooking is all about trial and error!
