Glazed Pearl Onions with Raisins and Almonds

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2012
These were delicious! I did have to modify a bit because I didn't have any raisins so I used dried cranberries. I know I have slivered almonds buried somewhere in the blackhole AKA my freezer but alas I could not find. With those changes it was stil wonderful and so easy to make. This will be on my Thanksgiving table this fall for sure. Thank for sharing Christine L !

Savory Blue Cheese Cheesecake with Cherry Pear Compote and Cherry Balsamic Glaze

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2012
This is going to be one of those reviews that drive folks nuts who don't like tinkering and reviewing. I am sorry, but I have wanted to make this for a very long time and I didn't have any event large enough to do this generous and beautiful appetizer. I decided that I would divide this to serve 6 so that I might use it for just my husband & I for Valentines Day as an app. and freeze some for drop in guests. Please forgive me Nana for deconstructing this to use in small amounts. First, I skipped the crust recipe because I decided to bake this in 4 oz ramekins. To compensate for the thyme that was missing in the crust, I added it to the cheese mixture. I divided the finished cheesecake mixture between 4 oz ramekins and baked in a water bath at 350 for 30 minutes. They puffed up beautifully. I then halved the fruit compote recipe and made as directed. I did not "frost" the cheesecakes cuz they came out beautifully. I then served the compote over the cheesecake with a sprinkle of toasted pecans and sliced baguettes for the foundation. YUMMY!!!! The beauty is that I still have two little ramekins in the freezer to pull out when I have impromptu guests or just us :) Thanks so much for sharing Baking Nana. this is impressive and delicious!

Soho Straight Up

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2012
I was looking for a flirtini recipe and came upon this. The only sub I had to make was to use red cranberry instead of white cranberry juice. This is wayyyyy too high octane for my taste. I think you would be doing way more than flirting if you had a couple of these. LOL Thanks for sharing MGM :)

Paper-Wrapped Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2012
These were tasty little morsels but a bit time consuming to wrap the chicken. I added a pinch of five spice powder and a teaspoon of toasted sesame oil to the marinade. The marinade was so darned easy which is a plus. I had to make another change because I didn't have enough oil to fry these. I put them in a single layer on a aluminum foil lined jelly roll pan and baked them at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. The eating was the fun part. Yum! Will def make these when I do an asian menu to impress my guests. Thanks for sharing WitchyWoman. BTW the ONLY bad reviews here are from folks who didn't make them......not a good way to review :(

Chicken In Coconut Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2012
I NEVER review something I haven't tried yet, but I was dismayed at the "most helpful" reviewer's claim that cream of coconut and coconut milk are the same or even similar. She then explains that the dish is bland. REALLY???? I will make this soon and return with an updated review and made with the proper ingredient aka Cream of Coconut.

Beet, Fennel and Mandarin Orange Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2012
This has some of my favorite salad ingredients. The only minus is the way too tart dressing. I added 1 tablespoon of splenda to cut the tartness and that really helped. Very good with the corrected dressing.

Microwave Lemon Curd

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2012
This could not be easier. This is a very tasty and zesty lemon curd without adding lemon zest. The consistency is not thick enough for a pie, but wonderful for a sauce. As mentioned in the description, it will really puff up in the microwave so use at least an 8 cup glass bowl. Guess you can teach this old dog a new trick :) Thanks for sharing Maridele!

Zippy Barbecue Sauce

Very nice barbecue sauce. Not too sweet. I used fresh garlic instead of dry because that is what I had. I grilled some baby back ribs and basted them generously with this sauce and it was ONO. Thanks for sharing Havicc Brine!

Beet Greens and Baby Spinach with Red Kidney Beans and Bacon Bits

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2012
This was very flavorful and full of different textures. I had to make one change. I was out of red wine vinegar so I used white balsamic vinegar. By choice, I used 2 slices of fresh bacon. (instead of imitation bacon bits) I cooked chopped up bacon in the first step and drained most of the fat. I then cooked the onion and garlic in the remaining tablespoon of bacon fat. The sauce was a bit too sharp for our taste so I added 1 teaspoon of sugar. This was a very nice dish that I will make again. I would be inclined to use all beet greens in the future just for their flavor and texture. Thanks so much for sharing a very good recipe truckersmom!

Very good pot roast and a great way to use a tough cut like cross rib. The only change I made was to braise at 300 for 5 hours. Delicious and a wonderful gravy. Thanks for sharing Cindy!

MySweetCreations Peanut Butter Cookie Pie

I worked in a restaurant during my college years ( 30 plus years ago) that served this...except they used 8 oz heavy cream, whipped, instead of the cool whip. This is the the bomb and everyone has always loved it. Try it.....you will dazzle your guests! Thanks for sharing!

Swedish Meatballs (Svenska Kottbullar)

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2012
Nice tender meatball. I had my grandmothers swedish meatball in mind when I tried this.....but this doesn't have enough seasoning for my taste. Otherwise, lovely and simple but I would zap up the nutmeg and allspice a tiny bit. My grandmother used to put a tiny bit of the allspice in the gravy too. I also served this with tiny yellow potatoes, lingonberries and carrots and brussel sprouts. Very nice combo. Thanks for sharing this tasty recipe Nom Nom Nom :)

Pozole in a Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2012
This is a wonderful pozole. The only change I made was using homemade chicken stock. Oops, I also didn't do the last step....by accident. i just threw the hominy in the crockpot and heated it that way. I did not know if the peppers were fresh or dried, but I was only able to find one of the chilis fresh and so I used dried for the two other chilis. This is terrific and I will make it again and again. Thanks so much for sharing Isabel!

Meadowwood Tapioca Pudding

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2012
This recipe has great potential WITHOUT any changes. I had trouble because my slow cooker runs very hot. I tried cooking it on low and then warm and finally succumbed to high. It finally started thickening and I then over cooked it. I will continue to make it stovetop because I can't babysit my slowcooker. If you have one of the older crockpots, I think this would work much better. It still is very tasty. BTW I am going to keep my eye out for an older and slower crockpot. I did serve this over a puddle of grand marnier and the orange liquer was a very nice addition. Thanks so much for sharing this recipe Meadowwood!

Reindeer Poop

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2012
In theory these would be tasty peanut clusters. Unfortunately, the warm cycle on my crockpot is too hot so it burned the first batch of chocolate in about 45 minutes. The next time, I hovered till the chocolate started to melt. (about 20 minutes) I did use white chocolate instead of the white candy coating because i didn't have any. Very creamy & smooth. Tasty and the little kids love them (especially the name). I could see so many variations with different nuts or dried fruits. I think I would drop spoonfuls into little paper candy liners in the future. I dropped them in a small muffin tin and that worked well too. Thanks for sharing this easy peasy and sweet recipe!
