Best corned beef I've made yet! I improvised a little with what I already had on hand: used dried minced garlic, no vinegar, and used a corned beef round instead of brisket since it's leaner. I too put the beef in the bottom of the crockpot first and mixed the water with dry stuff before pouring it over; added a little more water to cover. Waited a few hours before adding the veggies, last added the cabbage. Everyone loved it and it was gone in minutes!!! I was told I should make it more often than just on St. Patrick's Day.
