Wedding Day 6/7/08
About this Cook
My gorgeous husband and I got married on June 7th, 2008. I love being his wife and cooking for him and our family and friends in our apartment...although I'm not a huge fan of doing the dishes! I work full time so I don't have as much time as I'd like to devote to cooking, but I try my best to fix dinner at least four or five nights of the week. My husband and I will be moving to San Diego, CA at the end of next summer and I am excited to take advantage of the different variety of produce and other foods that will be available there!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake, especially cookies. And I'd really like to try making more ethnic foods for my rather adventerous hubby. Recently, I've been getting braver when it comes to altering recipes, and even just "winging" something without any recipe at all. I love having the freedom to throw in a little of this and a little of that. And I just discovered that I HATE cooking with bone-in chicken thighs. I'll never buy them again!!! I just got a breadmaker for my birthday, and I know I'll love being able to make our own bread.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom and I always spend a day during the holidays making cookies and candies that we take on trays to all of our holiday gatherings. Buckeyes, of course, are my favorite, as well as my husband's! I look forward to making all kinds of goodies for the holidays in my apartment this year.
My cooking triumphs
My mom is quite "famous" among our family and friends for her chocolate chip cookies and I am proud to say that I am the only person other than her who can make them like she can. I guess that comes from a decade of standing at her side watching her make them!
My cooking tragedies
This Mother's Day Ryan (my then fiance) and I were having his mom and grandma over for lunch. I thought I'd make Fettucini Alfredo with grilled chicken. I made homeade alfredo...but apparently I used a tad too much flour. I ended up with an alfredo pancake!!! We ended up heating up some spaghetti sauce out of a jar and everybody loved it :-) More recently, I tried making eggplant parmesan for my husband and myself, and it was so yucky! We threw the entire pan in the trash and had frozen pizza for dinner instead.

Dry Ranch Style Seasoning for Dip or Dressing
This dip was awesome, but I had to make a few changes. If I had made it exactly as written, I don't know that it would've been as tasty. Here's what I did: 1) decreased pepper to 2-3 grinds of fresh pepper, 2) used regular salt & decreased to 3/4 tsp--next time I'll only use 1/2 tsp, 3) added 1/8 tsp of dried dill weed, 4) mixed with plain sour cream and a little plain yogurt to give it a more "tangy" flavor. With these changes, it was fantastic! I'll definitely make this again and again.

Buffalo Chicken Wraps
First of all, based on taste, these were a six! However, I made modifications to the recipe because of what I had on hand. Changes: 1) I omitted the celery (we don't like it) and lettuce (didn't have any), 2) I added shredded cheese & chopped tomatoes. These are great! Definitely going to put this one into our normal rotation.

Sweet Spicy Wings
My husband and I loved this recipe! It has the perfect amount of sweetness and spiciness. Personally I liked it way better than the other wing recipe I tried from this site (Baked Buffalo Wings). Perfect with ranch or blue cheese dressing and celery sticks!
