hi all! thanks for the kind and loving gestures expressed in posts, cards and visits. i have been at shepherds since tuesday. i've stayed in her room, night and day. i've been with her again with all her care personnel. what a place! wow! the more she makes it "back", the more she is lovelingly challenged! i find it hard not to help her...but i don't . she wants to find the right word, use her left hand to open envelopes, type on her laptop, answer jeopardy questions, etc. she still kicks my butt at jeopardy. when she was 1st admitted to shepherds less than 6 weeks ago she scored a 21 on a "fem" test. i have no clue what that means. this thursday, her primary dr. said she scored a 97. she was amazed. everyone is. i'm a witness to a miracle. ok more good news...i toured "pathways", an offshoot of shepherds, her case-manager there pretty much said, she could certainly benefit from a stay there, but our local area had a terrific progam as well. she is coming home and starting an outpatient rehab locally. moose and i were checked out on a resiperator in case of choking. we both suctioned her throat today. scary but essential. her sister from chicago is with her now but leaving monday. she, as always, has been terrific! claire is to be released wednesday. she will start local rehab thursday here at home. she still needs 2 operations. the removal of the trach to close the wound (hole) will be gauze and tape! she will have to go off cumiden to "roto-rooter her throat, then replace her skull flap. the light at the end of the tunnel is a speeding train and soon we will aboard! i hope your misfortunes can have a happy ending like the one i highly anticpate here! much work still to go, but boy howdy! has the prayers worked! hug your loved ones, my tater is cooking!!
