Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2009
Great pancake! Tried it the original way, and also with some alterations. We tried it altered this morning: substituted half the flour with whole wheat flour, sugar with brown sugar, and melted butter with olive oil. Both ways, a fantastic pancake with butter and REAL maple syrup. Goes great with coffee!

Lemon-Lime Cupcakes

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2009
I thought it was an amazing, moist, dense cupcake. Tasted like a citrus meringue pie! Some lemon curd to fill and whipped cream flavored with some citrus peel would be divine. I want to try ginger ale with some ginger fresh ginger next time. *Did want to mention, my husband wasn't fond of these, but citrus flavored desserts aren't his thing.

Heavenly Chocolate Mousse

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2009
Delightful mousse! Used a combination of bittersweet and midnight dark chocolate. And used it to make a parfait with all of the extra whipped cream I made, which I topped with mini-bittersweet chocolate chips! Thanks for the wonderful recipe. (And keep an eye on your thermometer when cooking the eggs!).

Portobello Mushroom Stroganoff

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2009
It was delicious. I used crimini mushrooms in place of the Portobello, and McCormmack's Worcestershire pepper (it's vegetarian whereas the sauce isn't) in place of ground pepper, cornstarch (1/2 the amount) instead of flour... and sauteed a clove of garlic with the onions. Super creamy and yummy. Served it with toasted garlic potato bread, a side salad, and buttered corn.

Colonial Hot Buttered Rum

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
Very tasty. I cheated and did it in a pan with ground spices (wanted something quick), and did only two servings. At the proper temperature (and with my added vanilla ice cream) it was a very rich drink, and had no problems with floating butter. Very much like a rum soaked cinnamon roll taste.

Peach Coffee Cake II

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2008
Very yummy! I little heavier/denser than I was expecting. I added 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp each cloves, allspice and ginger to the batter. I substituted brown sugar for white sugar in the topping, and peach yogurt for the sour cream. I recommend doubling the topping... I will make this again, and will probably double the baking powder.

Delicious. I used light instead of dark brown sugar, and added a couple dashes of ground cloves and ground cardamom. I used Gosling's Black Seal Rum. I served it was some fresh hot breakfast pastries. An excellent breakfast!

Yorkshire Pudding II

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2008
It as very tasty! Soft on the inside, crunchy on the outside. I used the crisco/muffin tin method used by another reviewer because I am a vegetarian too. Reminded me of tiny German/Puffy pancakes. I served then with bananas foster.

Applesauce Doughnuts

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2008
This is awesome! I did change it slightly... I used half whole wheat flour and chunky apple sauce. The balance of flavors was perfect! It reminded me of the doughnuts we used to walk to the bakery early in the morning to get! Thank you for sharing!

Sicilian Ricotta Cheesecake

I really enjoyed the recipe. I used very dry homemade ricotta with a little bit of plain yogurt to add some moisture. I used 4 eggs, and added 1/3 cup triple sec to the mixture. Yummy!

A delicious spice cake, but needed twice the amount of spices. Perhaps a little less salt or leavening too. Paired well with ginger ice cream.

It's a fantastic recipe. I substituted homemade pumpkin butter for the pumpkin and spices. I highly recommend letting the batter sit before using. The ones at the end of the batch were beautiful!

Springtime Pasta Primavera

Reviewed: May 18, 2008
Delicious... just needed a little bit more flavor, maybe double the dill and garlic. I substituted veggie broth for chicken, and whipping cream for heavy cream, and added fresh pepper. Used leftover veggies from a platter (asparagus, broccoli, peppers, zucchini, carrots) and sauteed them in a little olive oil and a half the wine instead of boiling them with the pasta- giving the veggies a nice texture, removed from sauce pan and put into serving bowl, and then prepared the sauce, then mixed everything together.

Sweet and Sour Chicken I

This was delicious. I was out of white vinegar so I substituted cider vinegar, and substituted 1/2 the sugar with apple jelly. And I used baking mix instead of self-rising flour. My husband loved it and wants it as a regular dinner.

Amish Bread

This was a wonderful bread. It worked well as written- which is rare up here in the arid north. I made a double batch- half was used for a wonderful pizza the other half cooked in a bread pan. My family loved it so much, both the pizza and loaf were gone in 3 days.
