About this Cook
I live with my fiance and my soon to be step daughter who is 8 years old. I work full time as a mental health therapist, social worker by education. I met my man about 9 months ago and ended up in a whirl wind romance. Since we have been together my cooking as developed quite a bit. My ex hated food and said if he could have lived by taking a pill alone he would have (instead of eating). So opposite of me. Anyway, my fiance loves to try new foods and is open to new recipes. So much fun! He likes to cook too! I also love animals! I have three cats right now, one is a kitten who is CRAZY!
My favorite things to cook
Love to cook with my slow cooker. I think it is so awesome to come home after a hard days work to dinner already ready. I like to bake as well, but am far less advanced with those skills. One of my favorite things to make is so simple, but good... basically ziti with sauce, meat and many veggies and garlic (a lot of garlic). Family loves that one! I also make a really good beef stew, but I tend to save that for winter time with warm baked bread.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I am Jewish and so I love the Jewish foods.... but have to admit that I don't know how to make most of them. Grandma is still alive and well, but never really taught me how to make Matzo Ball soup, kugel, or other Jewish treats. Boo hoo. I used to love it when my mom would bake homemade cheesebread and homemade soup for dinner. To this day, she says she doesn't know how she made all those homemade meals and "from scratch" dishes while working full time and raising two kids.
My cooking triumphs
Cooked dinner for my grandma and dad on Father's Day 2008... grandma is "gourmet" and very finicky. She praised my meal. What a surprise! I made hazelnut, mushroom pilaf - tangy grilled pork tenderloin and roasted garlic cauliflower.
My cooking tragedies
Thank god haven't had too many. I know when I was a kid (my mom loves to tell this story), that I made cookies with 1/2 cup of salt instead of a 1/2 teaspoon. Ha! She said she felt bad, so she tried to eat one anyway.

Fettuccini with Mushroom, Ham and Rose Sauce
Very good. I couldn't wait until it thickened and simmered down because we were hungry and it looked so good, but you know what... it didn't matter.... it was still delicious! The only change I made was I added a little Parmesan cheese to the sauce. The ham I chose to use was a smoked ham from the deli that I had cut thick, it had a peppered outside and added a nice depth of flavor. Very good dish. I used different pasta and not fettuccine because of my preference.

Crescent Beef Casserole
This was pretty good. The more I ate it the more I wanted. I followed some suggestions and browned the mashed potatoes in the pan first to make the crust firmer. I added garlic to the veggies and found I needed a bit more tomato puree than stated. (about 2 cups once simmered). For feta I used the tomato and basil flavored kind and it seemed to add a nice flavor. I will make again.... if I change anything next time it will be to use tomato paste and sauce instead.

Cranberry Apple Bread
Very tasty! The batter is thick like a cookie dough, but I wasn't scared and went ahead and followed directions. Came out wonderful! Didn't change a thing and I'm glad. I will definitely be making again One note: when I cut into it, it wasn't done. Needed more cooking time than stated.
