About this Cook
I am married to a wounderful woman for 16 years with 2 children. Hunting, fishing, and gardening are one of my favorite things to do. I love canning, my wife and I do a lot in the late summer. We can everything from pickles, relish, tomatoes, tomato sauce, apple sauce, and jam. Getting my kids in the kitchen is one of my favorite things to do. Watching them getting excited about cooking is great! I was a sous chef for 8 years in a 4 star resturant/hotel. Now cooking is more of a hobby than a job.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking just about anything. A baker I am not... But I have to say Bar-b-Que is my all time favorite thing to do. It seems that smoke and cooked pork draw a good family party together.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making lucken waffer cookies at Christmas time (Belgian cookies). The reason I only make them at Christmas is that's when my Grandma would make them, and it just brings back good memories during the holiday.
My cooking triumphs
Entering a food show competition (Michigan Chefs de Cuisine) and receiving a sliver medal. Entry was a hotel plater for 8, hot food presented cold. College level missed a gold by 2 points...

Classic Fish and Chips
I only gave this 4 stars because it wasn't as crisp as I wanted. I followed the recipe to the letter except I used beer instead of milk like other reviews. I even thinned it out with a little more beer than it called for. I tested a peice of fish first to see if I liked it. I add a 1/4 tsp. onion powder & a 1/4 tsp garlic powder to the batter. It has great flavor! I will thin it out a little more next time. Other than that it was a good recipe.

Chocolate Chip Orange Zucchini Bread
Made this recipe to the letter. With all the great reviews I thought I was in for something great. I was very disappointed and upset that I wasted my chocolate chips on this recipe. Well lets just say it kind of tasted like fruit cake. I will stay with the lemon blueberry zucchini bread recipe I have for a different zucchini bread. I did not like this at all. Will not make it again.

Big Al's K.C. Bar-B-Q Sauce
I was looking for a sweet sauce and this is it! I did however cut 1/2 cup of brown sugar out of the recipe it is still sweet enough. Other than that followed the recipe. Thanks!
