Green Beans for a Special Occasion

Reviewed: May 3, 2009
This is very tasty and easy to make. I added some portobella mushrooms (2 large caps, cubed) sauteed in olive oil and garlic. Very nice indeed and guests had seconds.

Broccoli with Garlic Butter and Cashews

Reviewed: May 2, 2009
This is extremely delicious and everyone loved it, including the kids. The amount of butter is a little worrisome in terms of saturated fats so next time I may try half butter, half olive oil or just sesame seed oil. It is quite salty too so I could see using unsalted cashews in the future as well.

Tasty, tender, crunchy, quick and easy. I added a little crushed garlic. I'll make this again.

Beer and Brown Sugar Steak Marinade

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2009
Everyone liked it! I used this with top sirloin steaks and the only difference is that I fully tenderized both sides of the steaks with fork punctures beforehand and marinated the steaks for 3 hours before grilling. Used Guiness for beer. The steaks were very tender and flavorful. We'll use this one again.

Asparagus and Cashews

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
I don't have a wok so I used a regular frying pan. If the cashews are crushed they stick to the pan. Otherwise this is quite tasty indeed. My husband liked it too.

Lithuanian Krupnikas

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2008
I just got the krupnikas in bottles and it really smells delicious. I couldn't find whole yellow ginger (turmeric) so I used 1.5 tsp of powdered. Grain alcohol is illegal where I live so I used 1.5 quarts of vodka. This yielded almost 2 quarts of krupnikas with the water and honey. Even after settling overnight it has a luscious taste, but it is quite cloudy. I plan to let it sit 3 weeks and have a little on Christmas and then keep the rest for at least a year to mellow.

Jamie's Cranberry Spinach Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2008
This was a complete and total hit and the only thing to be completely devoured by the dat after Thanksgiving. Even the kids liked it! The only thing I did differently was use rice wine instead of wine vinegar and used a little extra apple cider vinegar for kick. Luscious and beautiful!

Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2008
I made this recipe exactly as written. My husband and one of my sons loved it, but I found the chocolate overwhelming to the point that you couldn't taste the bourbon at all. It is ultra-rich and a good option if you need to satify a chocoholic but want to do a nut pie.

Haroset for Passover

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2008
This was a delicious haroset. I used Gala apples as suggested, and substituted almonds and pecans for the walnuts. It does seem that the recipe calls for an awful lot of apples. I added extra nuts and cinnamon.
