I am pretty new to cooking. I didn't start cooking until after I got married, and even then-it took a while. I have a beautiful little girl and handsome husband that will try anything I give them. Bless their hearts. I wish I had been interested in cooking earlier...I would have gone to cooking school!
My favorite things to cook
Mexican! Thai! I love "exotic" foods. Minus really exotic ingredients...anything with eyes still in it, tentacles, slime...I will pass, thank you. I love a good desert, although I am afraid of baking sometimes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I am from Utah, bonafide LDS (mormon) so lots of funeral potatoes, jello salads, shepard's pie, spaghetti, etc. Things that could be made in bulk easily and cheaply. My mother is an amazing cook, so are most my sisters. There are five of them...like I said, Mormon. We love a good thanksgiving dinner any day of the year.
My cooking triumphs
Thai soup. I got the recipe from my mom, who got it from my sister, and I don't know where she got it. Very tasty. I must say, I like my version best. And really, I believe my triumphs are yet to come. Some very tasty lemon cookies, whose recipe I found on this site. Made some bread pudding recently that was surprisingly good. I thought it wasn't going to turn out but our company ended up taking more of it home so they could eat it there. Hope they weren't lying!
My cooking tragedies
Tried making cookies as a teenager with my friends. It turned into one huge crispy thing on the cookie sheet. Meatloaf. I tried to make my mother-in-law's recipe for my husband, and boy howdy...it was a true brick. I haven't tried to do it again since then.
