Aunt Anne's Sesame Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2008
These cookies were perfect!!! I made them exactly as written except I used half the butter. I agree with Marcelle2...this recipe only made 40 cookies. Also, you don't have to dip the dough in milk to get the sesame seeds to stick. I did it with and without. The only difference is that the dough gets more heavily coated when dipped in the milk first, but its so much more of a mess! The photo shown is without dipping them in milk. You can see they have plenty of sesame seeds on them. This is a great recipe that I will pass down to my daughters!

Beef Bourguignon III

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
This was very good. I made it as written except I marinated it overnight and I omitted the bacon. I served this over homemade polenta, which went perfectly with this recipe! The recipe didn't say when to add the salt and pepper, so I added it when I sauteed the beef and when I browned the mushrooms with the small onions.

Unbelievable Rolls

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2008
These are the lightest and fluffiest rolls I ever had!!! I made it as written except I only used half the sugar. They were perfect! I had to keep adding flour to keep the dough from being too sticky during rolling. I made half the recipe which used 1 packet of yeast. I can't wait to make these for guests!

Roasted Pork Loin

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2008
I've been making my pork roasts like this for many years except I use parsley instead of rosemary and corn oil instead of olive oil. I also marinate the pork loin in all the ingredients for a least 3 hours or overnight. This is one of my families favorite ways to eat pork!

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2008
This is a good recipe with a few adjustments. I used only 3 tsp. baking powder instead of 3 1/2 and I omitted the salt. I'm glad I did because the pancakes would of been too salty! I think I'll also double the sugar next time because it needed a little more sweetness. I also added 1 tsp. of pure vanilla extract. I double sifted the dry ingredients as suggested by another member. These pancakes cooked up nice and high! This recipe does not yield 8 servings...it made 11 pancakes...1/4 cup batter for each. I think most people would eat 3 per serving, so your lucky if you get 4 servings! Next time I'll double the amount because this is not enough for a family of 4. I'll definitely use this recipe from now on!

Ground Beef Mexican Style

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2008
This was extremely good! I did make a lot of changes to suit my taste. I added 1 very large clove of garlic (minced), to the ground beef, when I browned it. I used 90% lean meat. I also added 1/2 tsp. salt, 1 Tbls. chili powder and 1/2 tsp. ground cumin. I also added 1 small can of mild chopped green chilies. I didn't drain the meat after browning and I omitted the water. I served it over egg noodles with sour cream and shredded muenster cheese. If you love beef stroganoff and if you love chili...you'll love this dish, because it tastes like chili stroganoff!

Stuffed Peppers

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2008
This was pretty good. I omitted the vegetable protein and subbed cheddar for the mozzarella. I also added 2 large cloves of garlic minced when sauteing the onions. I also added 1/2 cup of grated parmesan cheese to the rice mixture.

Stir-Fry Snap Beans

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2008
This was just okay for me. I was hoping it would be more like the kind I get from my chinese take-out. I even added carrots, fresh garlic and waterchestnuts. I used 100% pure sesame oil and fresh green beans. I agree with the reviewer named sdtolley... double the liquids.

Matrimonial Bliss

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2008
I made this recipe because a member named Skuba wanted to know what Matrimonial Bliss looks like! Well now we know!!! LOL! One thing I now know is how delicious it is also! I made half the recipe and put it in 4 muffin cups. I made it as written except I used strawberry jam and walnuts instead of rhubarb and coconut. I highly recommend this wonderful dessert. I think I'll surprise Mr. Lillian with it on Valentines Day! ♥ ♥

Easy Mashed Potato and Roasted Vegetable Enchiladas

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2008
This was very good! It should be called a Mexican knish. I used 2 leeks, 1 red pepper, 1 green pepper and 3 large cloves of garlic, because my kids don't like the ones named in the recipe. You could use any veggies that you like. I'm glad I read the reviews, because blandness would of been a problem if I didn't add cayenne pepper, chili powder and cumin, along with the salt and pepper stated in the recipe. I sprinkled these seasonings on the veggies before roasting them. I used homemade mashed potatoes. Also, this recipe calls for 8 oz. shredded cheddar, but that is only enough cheese for 8 enchiladas. I would use 12 to 16 oz. of shredded cheddar. There is a lot of prep and mess when making this recipe but it is surely worth it!

Cucumber Fruit Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2008
This was extremely good! I used an English cucumber. I didn't have grapes, so I used cranraisins. Instead of a tart apple I used a Macintosh. This was a very fresh and tasty salad. I loved the contrast of the tart sour cream and sweetness of the cranraisins and apples. I also loved the freshness of the cucumbers and the parsley. All these different flavors just dance on your tongue! This is a very impressive salad!

Shrimp Lemon Pepper Linguini

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2008
This was extremely good! I subbed chicken for shrimp. I doubled the sauce and reduced the pepper by half as suggested by another member. I added a little cornstarch to thicken the sauce. The rest of the recipe, I made as written. I served this with grated parmesan cheese.

Chicken Soup with Stuffed Noodles

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2008
This soup was very good! I did have to add grated romano cheese and parsley. The noodles were not as good. They were missing something. I would add grated cheese and maybe some sauteed garlic to the breadcrumb mixture. The noodles get 3 stars in my opinion. I'll have to play around with it a little more. Also, this recipe doesn't state when to add the veggies, so I added them after I skimmed the foam. Very good recipe though!

Pretzel Turtles

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2008
This was so very good! Its very expensive also! This cost $11.50 for 35 pieces. I used Dove brand chocolate covered caramels ($4.49), butter snap pretzels ($1.99) and store brand pecan halves ($4.99)...but is was easy and very elegant looking. I'll make this again, but only for special occasions.

Cocktail Meatballs IV

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2008
This was very good...because after reading the reviews I tweaked this recipe. I added 1 large clove of garlic(minced), 1/4 tsp. salt and 1/4 tsp. pepper to the groung beef. It was still a little bland so I sprinkled salt + pepper into the sauce. I also used equal parts chili sauce and jelly. I will make this again and tweak the meatballs a little more. Overall a good recipe!

Apple Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2008
This was pretty good. I only used half the sugar because I added a cinnamon spice drizzle on top, which made it just sweet enough. I only used 4 Tbls. of butter instead of 1/2 cup shortening. I also added 1 tsp. cinnamon powder as suggested by another member. I think I would double the apple next time because I really couldn't taste any. The batter is very dry until the apples are added, then it becomes more like a drop batter. I used parchment instead of a greased cookie sheet and it worked fine.

Tangy Cucumber Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2008
This was extremely good! I used an English cucumber, so I skipped the step for salting it and letting it sit before rinsing. It didn't need that because it was not bitter. The only changes I made was to use roasted red peppers instead of tomatoes and I also added black olives.I made the dressing exactly as written and it was perfect! I love the slight sweetness of the dressing in combination with the cucumbers. I will be making this quite often!

Maryland Pumpkin Seeds

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2008
This was very good! Okay...I didn't have any Old Bay Seasoning, so I used seasoned salt instead. I loved it!!! Never thought to use anything but plain old salt. Now I'll have to try other pumpkin seed recipes. Maybe I'll use smoked paprika next time! Also...I didn't need to use any oil because I lined a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Worked great!

Spicy Korean Red Pepper Cucumbers

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2008
This was very good even though I made changes to it. I couldn't find Korean hot sauce so I used Frank's hot sauce. I also used a yellow onion instead of green. I also added 1 tsp of sugar as suggested by another member. I liked the contrast of flavors between the hot sauce and the sesame oil. This dressing was not too spicy, which I also liked. I will definitely be making this again.
