Oatmeal Waffles

Light and fluffy and whole grain...love 'em. I did add a Tbs of vital wheat gluten to make sure they didn't get too heavy, as per another reviewers suggestion.

Pumpkin Cranberry Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2009
So the first time I made this I was so excited since the idea of the cranberries, spices and pumpkin smelled and sounded so good BUT it was a total flop! I subed the dried crans for fresh, since I had some I wanted to use up and upped the sugar a little and decreased the liquid...I got a mushy bread. I didn't give up and tried it again, following the recipe and got a perfect loaf that was WONDERFUL. This is a keeper!

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2009
VERY GOOD! I made this on a whim and didn't have time to let it sit for more than about an hour as well as having to up the temp a little so we could eat on time and it was still great! That was earlier this week. Now I am prepping the chicken so that I can share it with extended family for a birthday dinner tomorrow. I am planning on making the gravy again too...supper easy and wonderfully flavorful. I just made the gravy with drippings, flour and water. YUMMY!

Light Oat Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2009
Very good! I took a risk and doubled the recipe the first time I made it and I am glad! It was fluffy with a good crust...prefect sandwich bread. I made mine by hand since I prefer bread like this when I have the time. I also made it with 1/3 whole wheat bread flour and 2/3 of it with white bread flour. This is a keeper for sure!

Vinegar Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2009
Since I adjusted for our taste I am giving 4 stars, but with my minor changes they are 5 stars cookies in both taste and ease of making...anything this buttery has got to be good! :) This is what I ended up doing: I left out the nuts since my family wouldn't eat them that way, took the recommendation of using 3/4 white and 1/4 brown sugar and then found after the first batch that they needed something more, probably due to leaving out the nuts, so I sprinkled the hot cookies with cinnamon sugar. Like this they taste very similar to Snickerdoodles...one of my favorites...but way easier. Perfect with a cold glass of milk!

Beer Batter for Fish

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2009
Perfect! The only advice I would pass along (at the risk of looking silly) would be to make sure not to place the battered fish directly into the basket of the fryer (if using that style) as it will bond with it! Just place directly into the oil with out the basket and use tongs.

Blueberry Zucchini Bread

Very yummy and not too sweet! (I did trade 1/2 the oil out for apple sauce and cut the sugar by 1/2 c)

Dill Pickles

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2009
This review is perhaps a bit on the hasty side. It's been 6 whole days and I was craving some egg salad and needed some pickles so I broke into a jar. These are VERY yummy and perfectly crisp...can't wait till they reach their fullest flavor! This recipe is a keeper! The only note I made was to use 8 1/2 lbs of cukes since the last jar was a little short.

Old Fashioned Onion Rings

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2009
These were really good! I used the NW's amazing Walla-Walla Sweets and a combo of Panko and bread crumbs (needed more than the recipe called for and had to combine the two since I didn't have enough of each). I will spice them up for my tastes (more salt, pepper...maybe some seasoning salt...will have to play with it)next time, but otherwise this is a keeper.

Famous Japanese Restaurant-Style Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2009
Not sure where I went wrong, but this just did not meet my expectations. It was lacking in flavor, even after I played a bit with the seasoning. I also gave it time to "blend" by leaving it overnight with high hopes...I ended up tossing the left overs since after sitting it became a bit watery. My husband said if was "good," but it just wasn't my taste...sorry.

Hot and Sour Soup with Bean Sprouts

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2009
This was a good start but I ended up having to tweak it a bunch to get enough flavor for our tastes and was still left feeling like it was missing something. I am going to have to order a bowl again and figure out what I am missing. Also, I love cilantro, but I have to say that I felt it did not belong.

Applesauce Custard Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2009
This was a good pie but I found myself wanting some texture to it (and I even took someone's suggestion and added a crumb topping with oats as well as cinnamon). I was thinking that a diced apple might do the trick, but then I also liked that it was really quick to put together since there wasn't any fruit to cut up and my family liked it. I would probably make this again if I was really craving apple pie and had apple sauce and no apples, but a traditional apple pie is still my favorite.

Easy and yummy! I did add about 1/2 Tbs of cinnamon to the sauce as this is my preference and it came out beautifully. Perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

Whole Grain Waffles

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2009
Very yummy and even my family that doesn't always like whole grains liked them. I did add blueberries after I ate the first one...they just screamed for this addition. Oh, and I didn't have the whole wheat pastry for whole wheat bread flour since that was what I had.

Shrimp Chowder

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2009
I am a huge fan of soups and this one was very good. I made a few changes to suit my tastes, which made it a 5 star chowder: added a bay leaf, a pressed clove of garlic (sauteed with the onion and celery in butter), and a cup of chicken broth (in addition to the milk). I also cut back on the cream cheese to 1/2 a package. Very yummy...I have even traded out the shrimp for a can of crab meat and it is delicious.

Heavenly 'Apple of My Thigh' Dessert

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2009
I have made this several times for parties and it is always a hit. I also screwed up one time by leaving the pre-mixed cream cheese part at home (sadly bought something else after realizing an hour from home) and now know that just that part makes a really good dip for fresh whole strawberries...had to use it some how!:)

Spinach Brownies

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2009
I loved the name and love spinach, but these were not exactly what I had in mind...they were more like a very spinachy quiche and less like a brownie and pretty oily. I suppose with some adjustments they could be really good, but honestly not worth my trouble...sorry.
