Grandma's Star Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2011
Not good. Dense, and flavorless....I even made a small amount of icing hoping that would help...to say the least they were a disappointment.

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2011
Often I tweak recipes for my families taste, but I just left this as it was (except that I don't use seasoning salt ever so I used poultry seasoning, garlic powder, pepper and salt in its place)...this was awesome and so easy! The turkey was moist and flavorful and I didn't have to run back and forth basting...love that! I also love that the drippings weren't so over powering and salty and made a nice gravy (brined a bird and had horridly salty drippings...a lot more trouble than it was worth too!). This is a keeper!

Dutch Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2011
Awesome! We love potatoes in our home and I am always happy to prep them in any form. My kids liked them and were surprised to hear there were "yucky" cooked carrots and onions in here as well...makes Mom happy! *I did boil the carrots for a little prior to adding the potatoes and found I needed a bit of milk to make to the texture we like.

Thai Green Curry Chicken

Very yummy! I didn't add the soy sauce to the sauce as someone else recommended but I did add some bamboo shoots since I was trying to capture the taste of another dish we love.

Emily's Famous Hash Browns

I would give these more stars if I could...yummy, crispy and easy!!! I have been on a quest for how to make a perfect hashbrown that isn't soggy or loose and these are neither. Totally a hit and a keeper! Thanks Emily!!!

Island-Style Fried Rice

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2011
I can't give it all 5 stars since I don't make it with spam--I use cubes of ham, or BBQ pork--or the sausage. I have also added shredded cabbage and carrots to get some extra veggies in there to make it a one dish meal. Very tasty and fast (I make the rice the day before for best results otherwise it comes out mushy and sticky).

Very yummy, tender waffles and the syrup is very good...even made some to go on French toast. Great fall treat. :)

Pineapple Upside-Down Cake VII

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2011
This cake is dangerous...it is VERY yummy and VERY easy to make. I made it twice in one week, once for my family to test out and a second time for a women's group where it got rave reviews and requests for the recipe. My husband liked it a lot and wasn't excited to hear I was making it since he said it wasn't a favorite.

Maple Baked Pork Loin Roast

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2011
Very tasty, a bit sweet, and very tender...best of all very easy clean up. I did use the suggestion of using BBQ sauce...we liked it but due to the sweetness I may need to mess around with things to make a bit more on the savory side since that's more my preference for meat dishes.

Yummy...I like where this recipe starts but found I needed to adjust the seasonings for my taste...more lemon and garlic.

Triple Berry Crisp

Left off the 5th star since I haven't actually made this with the 3 different berries...we have access to tons of wild blackberries and really enjoy picking them for this dessert. Always a hit!

Polish Sausage Kraut Skillet

A good one skillet meal when you need a quick and hardy dish. I did overlook the addition of carrots, but I don't think they were missed...this even passed the preschooler test (she loves sausage!).

Chocolate Fudge Buttercream Frosting

I generally could do without frosting, but this was good enough to put the left overs on graham crackers! :) I used it with a white cake and raspberry filling...yum!

Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2011
I would give these 5 stars but I made a few changes (I am sure they would have been fine without the changes though). I had to use vanilla yogurt since I ran out of plain so I reduced the sugar by 1/2 and then my husband was looking over my shoulder while I looked for recipes and I was torn over this one and a banana muffin with a crumb topping and no chocolate. He asked for banana chocolate chip with a crumb topping so I used this one and added the topping (1/3 c. flour, 1/2 c. brown sugar, 4 Tbs softened butter, 1 tsp. cinnamon). YUMMY! :)

Caramel Shortbread Squares

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2011
WARNING: you can never make enough of these! They are also best to give away quickly or you will eat the whole pan (which should be a double recipe!) and feel really guilty. :) FYI...took the suggestion to chill and found them too hard to cut...as hard as it is, it is best to cool at room temp all the way and then cut.

Original Irish Cream

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2011
Easy, yummy, great gift...I am not giving the full 5 stars simply because I did change it a little. I reduced the whiskey for my taste and used half and half, which I also increased in the end as well. Over all a great starting point that you can very easily tweak to your own taste.

Sour Cream Apple Pie Deluxe

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2011
I doubled the recipe to fill a deep dish pan and this pie was terrific. I was a little disappointed that it sank a bit after cooling but I think that I can increase the apples by a few cups next time and still have an amazing pie with the same yummy results. It's a keeper!

Nutmeg Refrigerator Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2010
I think that these were not really my families taste more than anything, but we found the texture to be too chewy (not really crisp and not really soft). I liked the taste of the nutmeg and thought they complemented a cup of coffee nicely, the rest of the family didn't think they had enough flavor.

Italian Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2010
Not a meatball left after making a double batch for a family get together...enough said? :) Would have given a 5 star rating but I did change it very slightly to match my ingredients on hand: made the meatballs with 1/2 beef and 1/2 pork added some italian seasoning to the sauce for personal taste. YUMMY!
