About this Cook
I am a full-time mom and wife with two beautiful girls, one of whom is my terrific step-daughter and an amazing husband. I have a background in Early Childhood Development and I keep out of trouble with my two home businesses (teaching baby sign language as well as being a Pampered Chef consultant). In addition to my work and family I have taken the extra (haha!) time I have from not working outside the home, to "get back to basics." I have starting baking our bread, making yogurt, canning, and cooking and baking from scratch as much as I can. I am even making our own cleaning products as well as raising a small flock of chickens for fresh eggs. This started as an effort to be frugal and now I am enjoying the wholesomeness of it all.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook chicken noodle soup. The process of it is oddly comforting and reminds me of my grandmother, who I don't get to see as often as I would like, since she taught me her mother's recipe. Don't tell her...but I have changed it a little, but I still start with the whole chicken and make my own egg noodles by hand!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Friday night breakfast dinner! We started this because my husbands mom would always do Pizza Friday and my step-daughter doesn't like pizza. She requested breakfast and so it stays! Each week we get to take turns picking what to have...I always ask her and she ALWAYS says she wants French Toast!
My cooking triumphs
Getting a little one who doesn't like beans to ASK for my recipe for Black Bean Soup!
My cooking tragedies
Not even going to go there...I like to cook and I like to experiment so of course there have been some, um, interesting results! :)

Pumpkin Cranberry Bread
So the first time I made this I was so excited since the idea of the cranberries, spices and pumpkin smelled and sounded so good BUT it was a total flop! I subed the dried crans for fresh, since I had some I wanted to use up and upped the sugar a little and decreased the liquid...I got a mushy bread. I didn't give up and tried it again, following the recipe and got a perfect loaf that was WONDERFUL. This is a keeper!

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style
VERY GOOD! I made this on a whim and didn't have time to let it sit for more than about an hour as well as having to up the temp a little so we could eat on time and it was still great! That was earlier this week. Now I am prepping the chicken so that I can share it with extended family for a birthday dinner tomorrow. I am planning on making the gravy again too...supper easy and wonderfully flavorful. I just made the gravy with drippings, flour and water. YUMMY!

Light Oat Bread
Very good! I took a risk and doubled the recipe the first time I made it and I am glad! It was fluffy with a good crust...prefect sandwich bread. I made mine by hand since I prefer bread like this when I have the time. I also made it with 1/3 whole wheat bread flour and 2/3 of it with white bread flour. This is a keeper for sure!
