Black Bean Soup I

I won't add salt again. Too salty. You can always add salt at the table.

Easy Pizza Sauce II

Reviewed: May 18, 2009
8 ounces is not much sauce unless you like a pizza on the dry side. I used a 14 ounce can of diced tomatoes, which I crushed. That made everything kind of runny and with no tomato paste to thicken it I added a small amount of corn starch and doubled all of the other ingredients. Cooked it. It thickened up and was delicious.

Pizza Crust for the Bread Machine II

Reviewed: May 18, 2009
Simple to make. I put in 1% milk instead of the powder in the recipe and it worked out well. There's nothing about temperature in the recipe... 350-375 degrees works well, although the higher temperature might burn the cheese if you aren't careful.

Teriyaki Salmon

Fantastic recipe! It's important to baste the salmon a few times. For the best sauce, pour the basting liquid from the hot pan over the fish.

Best Bread Machine Bread

Used brown sugar instead of white. Added an extra 1/2 teaspoon of salt as others have recommended. Turned out great! Makes great toast.

Okra with Tomatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2009
Five stars because someone else told me it is. I used half the cayenne, which I think is probably enough for most people, but it won't be hot. Used only a 28 oz. can of diced tomatoes but threw in some romas from last summers garden to chunk it up. Skipped the green pepper and didn't miss it. This recipe goes well with fish like haddock or tilapia.

Slower is better; but this recipe will do in a pinch.

Spaetzle I

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2009
Used skim milk instead of water. Easy to cook but hard to press through a cutter. Thought it might be easier shoeing a horse or pulling out tree stumps. But worth the effort! The recipe for four is just right if you eat like eight people do.

Jagerschnitzel

Enjoyed this recipe. Used crushed saltines instead of bread crumbs. Left out the bouillon cube. Beat two eggs because I used twice as much pork. Happy to make this recipe again. Everyone loves it. "Spaetzle I" recipe goes well with it.

Simple Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2009
I'm a novice when it comes to bread baking. The flavor of this bread is delicious without any modifications to the recipe. I did end up with a flatter, denser loaf than your usual loaf of any kind of bread. But I had no loaf pan, so that was probably it. Great recipe!

Great recipe! Added bamboo shoots, water chestnuts and straw mushrooms. Left out the cabbage, but only because others didn't want it. Finished dish looks exactly like the photo uploaded.

Oven Baked Jambalaya

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2008
If you follow this recipe as written, you will end up with hard rice. But if you increase the temperature at the end of the 1 1/2 hours by about 25 degrees and give it another twenty minutes or so (I didn't keep close track of the time...), the problem is fixed. Perhaps you could just bake it at 375 the whole time to eliminate the problem. I'll try that next time. I think the problem is that the rice has to be boiled at some point. The increase in temperature does that.

Slow Cooker Vegetable Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2008
I found this recipe to be very bland as chili. Having said that, I adapted the "chili" by adding it to chicken broth to make a half decent vegetable soup. I wouldn't make this recipe again.

Easy Baked Tilapia

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2008
This recipe doesn't indicate that if you use only the amount of Old Bay stated, you will end up with a bland dish. Very good, but bland. Add more spices. Also, one pound of tilapia won't feed four people unless there are side dishes. I substituted a blend of red and yellow peppers and white onions, plus a can of mushrooms, in place of the vegetables suggested. You can use any vegetables you want.

Beef Barley Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2008
I made this recipe without the peas and the chunks of beef. It's rich and hearty enough that way. I might add slightly more barley next time, but it's not necessary. Better the second and third day.

Roasted Tomato Salsa II

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
I modified this recipe, but not by much. I added extra garlic and put in two onions instead of one. No chili sauce. I put in more hot sauce. Tastes just like one of my local Mexican restaurant's salsas.
