Beet Soup

Reviewed: May 27, 2008
The soup came out a delicious colour and texture (although as other users mentioned, it DOES take about 40-45min to cook the beets through). Since I had some other vegetables to use up, I added one carrot and two sticks of celery (all grated) to the beets as they were boiling, then blended it all together. You'll need to serve this soup with something else (ie, crusty bread), as it's not quite filling enough on its own.

Homemade Apple Crumble

Reviewed: May 27, 2008
Delicious! You can't go wrong with a simple, easy-to-follow recipe like this (which reminds me of the apple crumble my Mum would make for the family, growing up). For added crunch, I used a little Sultana Bran (cereal). This was great. :)

Glazed Meatloaf II

Reviewed: May 27, 2008
Hands down the best meatloaf recipe I have ever made OR tasted! For an extra-tasty glaze, I use BBQ sauce instead of tomato sauce (it adds an extra level of taste which mixes wonderfully with the mustard and lemon juice). I've made this recipe many times since discovering it!

Pumpkin Soup

Reviewed: May 19, 2008
This recipe was absolutely delicious, especially with the taste of the nutmeg and roasted vegetables (I added 3 cloves of garlic in with the veggies before roasting them). Will definitely be making this again and again! :)

Dave's Mocha Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2008
I didn't have any sherry on-hand, so I just left it out, adding a little chicken stock to the pan when simmering to make up the liquid measure. As a note, allow an hour to cook the chicken thoroughly - 35min is not long enough! In the end, the taste was deep and rich, but was missing a certain... sweetness, I think? Perhaps the sherry was vital to the recipe, I wouldn't recommend leaving it out (maybe more brown sugar, or another sweet sauce).

No Skill Fruit Tart

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2008
This was a great recipe! Though being in Australia I changed shortening to butter, and used a gelatin powder (made up with hot water, available at European-style stores) glaze over the fruit. It was a big hit to the Christmas party I brought it to!

Chickpea Salad with Red Onion and Tomato

We used plenty of fresh parsley and lemon juice in this recipe, and added a can of tuna and some sweet corn to this recipe. It was delicious!

No Bake Rum Balls

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2008
I substituted sweetened condensed milk instead of corn syrup in this recipe, and rolled the rum balls in hundreds and thosands, coconut and crushed peanuts. They turned out great, and the different coatings made for good variety in Christmas gift-giving! :)
