About this Cook
I grew up a navy brat, then worked as a contractor for the army and eventually married my amazing army husband. My family had dinner together every night when I was growing up, so that's a treasured time of the day for me and I try to have dinner ready when my husband comes home from work. Easy, healthy recipes are my favorites, although my husband and I also enjoy things with some "European flair" due to our time in Italy and Germany.
My favorite things to cook
Pasta dishes with sauteed veggies, tasty cookies with some benefit like oats or fruit in them, meat grilled over charcoal, camembert with jam...
My favorite family cooking traditions
I would love to make bread and pie crust like my mother. She's the master! My husband and I like to experiment with marinades and grill our meat, and we love figuring out new twists on old favorites. So far our only tradition is crepes for Christmas breakfast.
My cooking triumphs
My husband makes me feel like the best chef in the world because of the way he enjoys and compliments my cooking! So any dinner that he likes is a triumph, but specifically I make a mean potato-ham soup, really tasty Italian pasta with veggies, and can't-stop-eating-them cookies.
My cooking tragedies
I made a beef and vegetable soup this week that was mediocre, and once when I was throwing a party two of eight appetizers flopped - sugarplums and hummus. Fortunately I was making them the day prior, so I could substitute!

Chocolate Truffle Cookies
We liked these - perfect texture, great looking cookie - but they were a little bland and less sweet than we were expecting. Maybe almond flavoring would help, as another reviewer suggested. Amazing texture, though!

Farm Macaroons
Mine are just coming out of the oven now - they're not 'spiky' like other macaroon recipes I've tried, but they're elegantly smooth, and just melt in the mouth. The outside is a little crunchy and the inside is chewy and coconutty. So good! I'm drizzling semi-sweet chocolate on the tops and taking them to a brunch! The only things I altered were using sweetened coconut and baking on German parchment paper.

Red Garlic Mashed Potatoes
I read the reviews before making this, so I left out the sugar and also just used milk instead of cream. They turned out wonderfully; we really liked them with the skins included!
