I am a newly wed who likes to cook with my husband. Cooking and baking is very therapeutic for me.
My favorite things to cook
My husband and I like to experiment. We like to grill and bake mostly. We've tried Mediterranean, Asian, Italian, and Latin food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
During the holidays while growing up my grandmother's sister would always recruit me to make her special mayonaise. Why she insists on making her own mayo was beyond me but I was the one who whisked and whisked that egg mixture while I watched the rest of the family chop, mince, fry and cook the rest of the feast. Preparations begin days before the holidays. I remember that we'd always have homemade ham, ambrosia, and some type of noodle or pasta dish.
My cooking triumphs
I have always been intimidated of baking with yeast. I'd say when I successfully baked my first artisan bread was a cooking triumph. My husband loved it so much he said he can get used to eating it with every meal.
My cooking tragedies
When I was in my twenties I tried to boil water and forgot about it. I burned the heck out of that pot and almost burned the house down. That incident started the joke in my family that if I can't even boil water how can I learn how to cook?
