I was a cook in a bistro cafe for a few years so I know what I'm doing MOST of the time. That was a few years back but I still cook a lot and am always learning new techniques. My boyfriend and I work really well in the kitchen together and prefer rattling pots and pans around rather than going out to eat.
My favorite things to cook
Curry or Stir-Fry is what we make on nights when we're too tired to cook a full meal. Crepes were one of my specialties back in my cafe days along with soups and alfredo. I'm more interested in Asian cooking now and just getting into learning how to make some Indian favorites. My clafoutis ALWAYS impress and are so so easy to make.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family is French and our idea of a traditional meal is a home made soup, a cold meat and cheese plate, some bread, a little red wine and of course the salad. In our family every member has a flat wooden bowl for exclusivly making the dressing for the salad. We also use this dressing for steamed veggies, grill marinade, bread dip...
My cooking triumphs
I've never won any contests or built a 3 foot cake out of spun sugar but I've fed large amounts of people in a short amount of time for years and years. Also, like my great-grandmother who had to feed 3 children in the south of France during WWII, I can turn what looks like an empty pantry into an elegant feast.
My cooking tragedies
I have failed once, miserably at taking an empty pantry and turning it into a meal for 4. I had crackers, egg, canned tuna, tomato paste, onions and maybe some lettuce. I tried to make fried tuna cakes on a salad and they came out embarassingly horrible. I think we ended up getting fast food that night.
