My favorite things to cook
As of now, coffee cakes. I haven't tried to make them using yeast yet, but I've already fallen in love with the quick-bread version. There's a coffee cake recipe for everyone; if you get down the basic recipe you can try every variation in the book! Basically, I love how flexible they are. They are easy to make and you can add any nut, extract, jam, spice, or filling you desire. Also, coffee cakes are technically a breakfast food, even though many of them are so rich and sweet that they can be considered a dessert!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I always carry with me the wonderful memories of my mom and I baking together when I was a little girl. I'd have to stand on a chair in order to peek over the mixing bowl, and my mom would constantly give her warning not to stick my fingers in the bowl when the beaters were on! Luckily, I never did. My brother would be right there besides me and we'd always have to sample the batter after every single new addition, even if it was just butter and sugar! As my brother and I grew older, he soon left the kitchen but I remained faithful. Little by little, I became more adept in the baking process from watching my mother. This summer, I started to bake by myself, and realized that it was pretty fun! When we get the chance, my mom and I still like to bake together in the kitchen like we use to.
