Spring finally made it

10:31pm & instead of being in bed, I'm up surfing with a nasty case of strep throat. Serves me right I guess. We've been sleeping with the windows open the past several nights, something we hoosiers shouldn't do before June. I'm glad the weather has finally started to cooperate though. February/March & the first half of April just "sucked" as my 16 year old son would say.
Over the past few days I've been able to put in the majority of the garden (with the 4 year old's help) - it took twice as long but she likes getting dirt on her hands, like all kids should. I am trying raised bed gardening this year - a little more work initially, but I think it may produce more in a smaller plot. Time will tell. I have peas, radishes & spinach up - my spouse also proudly harvested some salad mix that we had planted in the greenhouse last fall.
The hairnet ladies have been behaving themselves for the most part. No major discrepancies other than some finger pointing between shifts (2nd shift NEVER cleans out the fryer ect.). One of my staff cannot figure out my high level of patience. "Why don't you just tell them to shut up & do their jobs?" That would be easier, but unfortunately todays human resource managers frown on telling anyone to "shut up." I normally use other tactics like, "Marge, if you would stop talking for a minute you might be able to understand what I'm trying to tell you." A little long winded yes, but if they do indeed compute the statement, they likely get offended, but don't go running to HR saying they are being harassed. They just brood on it awhile, but usually do quiet down some. I've always said the ones complaining the most are lacking things to do. This goes for most occupations i would guess.
The other thing to remember with hairnet ladies (& many wives) is that you always have to let them have the last word with any problem. If you don't, the issue will come back & bite you on the behind again, along with the "I told you so" look that only a well married woman can have.
Hope everyone reading feels better than I do at the moment.
